Official 2010 Lake County Captains Thread
Re: Official 2010 Lake County Captains Thread
Tony, wasn't Jason Knapp mentioned at one point as the likely Game 5 starter. I noticed in your most recent comment in this thread that Nuno was listed as the likely Game 4 probably. But I could have sworn that Knapp was mentioned as the Game 5 probable sometime. I was secretly hoping the series would go 5 games so Knapp could close out the season with a bang.
If he doesn't start, is there any chance we see him? I'm not sure I like the call going with Soto. It just seems like he should have been shut down a few games again, as soon as he had the fatigue/injury to his throwing arm.

No Knapp. He is healthy, but his velocity was down in his last start (which is why he was removed so soon) which they think is a tired arm and don't want to push it.

Nuno was unbelievable tonight. Had the other team baffled the entire game except for that one mistake in the 1st inning.
Anyone who says these are meaningless minor league games needs to check themselves....the players are playing and reacting to everything like they are in the World Series. Nice to see the players in this kind of environment rather than the laid back approach of the regular season.
Same thoughts about the crowd myself. i saw more people huddled around the lineup board with scorecards than I ever see at a regular season game. Hope to see you there tonight. I'll be the guy sitting behind the plate twitching nervously throughout the game.

it would be nice if classic park could be full tonite with our fans. with all the disapointing things that have happened recently with all of our cleveland sports teams, we have a championship caliber team a few minutes from downtown cleveland, right in eastlake, and these kids will give everything they have for you. and what a gem of a ballpark classic park is. if you havent been to classic park, you have to get out there to check it out, what a facility you have there in eastlake.

Soto dealing thru 5 scoreless with 8K.
He's faced the minimum as both baserunners were cut down on the bases (a caught stealing and a pickoff).
Captains being no-hit though, their only baserunner was Holt who reached on an error in the 1st.

Jeremy Johnson strands two inherited runners - game tied 1-1 heading to the bot 6th.
Soto great with a line of 5.2IP, 3H, 1R, 2BB, 9K
So, does Guilmet just go the final 3 innings?!

Captains go 2-1 up in the bot 6th on an RBI hit by Frawley and Guilmet is indeed coming on.

Folgia also had a nice series, made big plays defensively...
Burnette had nice playoffs... hard to really pick an MVP without actually seeing the games...
I'll defer to you, Daz, on the Guilmet pick...

Really enjoyed tonight!
Great crowd - no youth groups, or community groups, or church groups. No annoying little kids running around not paying attention. No lame fish race, or Kraft Cheese baggy toss, or singing "Happy Birthday". Just 1,500 hardcores and baseball fans enjoying a well-played, intense game. Loved the efforts of all the pitchers. Guilmet is a stud - Soto may turn out to be a steal. Damn - how great was that dogpile?

Wish I could have made it but I had bowling league. Glad to hear there was a great crowd and that the Captains pulled it out.
I really hope some of the local news channels had cameras and reporters at the game. Lord knows the local pysche needs this boost.

That pileup was AWESOME. I think every player made it onto the pile.

Re: Official 2010 Lake County Captains Thread
A few thoughts on the celebration last night (with a quick Clippers tie-in):
- Is the MWL prez OK? I'm a little worried that he couldn't make it to his league's LCS Game 5.
- Does anyone find the irony in Kubiak being doused with a liquid (Gatorade) that hadn't been invented yet when he entered pro baseball (Gatorade was invented in 1965, Kubiak made his pro debut with the 1961 Sarasota Sun Sox)?
- Quick mini poll: With the Captains (and Clippers) now having pennants to display next year, do you anticipate them being placed:
a. on a flagpole (traditional)
b. in the team shop window (aka "Aeros style")
c. in storage (especially germane to the Clips, who can't put the pennant below another flag because that's behind the batter's eye)
d. elsewhere (specify)
- Nothing major, just a bit of curiousity, but it seems like until last year, minor league teams would sell replicas of the locker room t-shirts, a la major league teams, but it seems that now (since 2009) they make one style for the players/staff and another for sale to the fans. Is this a minor league (MiLB) policy or just a local trend?

Great job on the videos , Tony. It looked like everybody was into the celebration.
Many people say winning games is not important in the minor leagues. But it sure doesn't hurt to play in games that have some pressure.
Congrats to the Captains!

I probably should have asked this some time ago but I didn't think Cook's injury was anything more than the increase in workload. He is one of the notable missing from the instructs. Can anyone tell me if it more serious than caution with a young talented pitcher?

He's fine. Indians overly cautious...was up to 98 MPH in a bullpen before the last game.
