Pretty boring lineup... high upside arms.
However, I love Bo Greenwell, Delvi Cid, and Clayton Cook. I hope they have as much helium as I think they do. Living in Mentor, I think I'll catch quite a few of their games this year.

Yeah, there is no big time upside hitting prospect in the lineup. Cid and Greenwell will be intertesting to watch, and Perez will be too. Folgia I expect will produce, but he is not a big prospect.

Haley seemed to be feast or famine last night. He was either getting out after out or throwing it to the backstop. Jones and Jimenez were pretty impressive out of the pen. Also, Smith's defense is looking pretty good. I know it's only one game, but I'm liking what I'm seeing out of him, defense-wise.

My question is about Fontanez. Maybe he will be in LC soon but I would have really liked to have seen him there instead of Smith.

Interestingly, very veteran lineup and should score some runs. Also the defense should be above average as they have a lot of college guys in the 2nd or 3rd years in the organization playing low A ball, especially on the infield. This team is set up to help the pitchers look good and, given the high level prospects we have pitching, that can be a good thing, I guess.

It can also be a bit misleading numbers-wise. Better keep an eye on FIP and babip with those guys.

I was just going with a gut reaction from what I saw last night, that's all.

Joe Gardner with 11 K's in 4 IP, then out of the game, looks like they had a weather delay that inning...

What a night for Gardner....too bad he could only go four innings. All those Ks ate up his pitch count!

That's an amazing line for Gardner (who will be nicknamed "Chauncey"). Good to see Bryson doing well too.

I did a double take when I saw Gardner's pitching line. Nice work from the pen by Bryson and Hubbard too.

Pretty impressive when 11 of your 12 recorded outs are strikeouts (note, in the 4th inning he actually got a "free" K as a passed ball on strike three allowed the runner to go to first so he had to get 4 outs that innings, so technically it was 11 strikeouts out of 13 recorded outs, but who's counting anyway?

just everything I read on that sinking fastball made it sound like a plus pitch which could end up being plus plus, I remember when he was drafted Law notes on him were very positive and at worst thanks to that one pitch he would be a pen guy some day worst case

Haley with an encouraging start:
5IP, 9H, 3ER, 0BB, 1K -- 9/3 GO/FO
Too many hits, but no walks, which is a good sign. Love the GB rate.

Hopefully not to jinx Jimenez but he is 9-0 as a Captain and 10-0 stateside since last year. Can you say Julian Tavarez?

Gardner's two starts combined: -
9IP, 28 outs (a K reached base on a passed ball), 18K, 9GB, 1CS
Not a single out recorded in the air - that's impressive!

Captains win in 10 innings to move to 9-0.
Greenwell really on fire going 3-for-6 to give him 5 straight multi-hit starts (he walked in a PH appearance in the 1 game he didn't start).
Bryson racks up 4 more Ks (8K in 4.2IP this year) in two scoreless to pick up the win.

ha, seems like a good name for a team managed by Sal though.....If I saw him on the streets I'd think he was either in the mob or worked in a car garage

Bryson is making my pick of him being a top rebound/ break-out candidate look very good.

He was my "breakout special" for this year. So far, he is making the selection look good.
But, we have a very long way to go.
What I suspect will happen with him though is that as his confidence increases, the extra base hits will start to really pick up.

Wild start for Trey Haley today..... he only allowed 1 hit thru 4 innings, but it was a big one! Allowed a Grand Slam after walking the bases loaded.
Finished with 4IP, 1H, 4R/ER, 5BB, 2K
Bo Greenwell 3-for-3 with a HR.... insane!

Bo Greenwell is just a joy to watch. He was a joy to watch before he had the results I thought he'd get... now this year he's filling up the stat sheet, and he just doesn't quit. He's a balls to the wall type of player, and a kid that looks like he really enjoys playing the game. Hope he can keep it up.

Joe Gardner getting the start tonight.... he struggled in the 2nd inning: - infield single, BB, K, BB, Grand Slam to lead off the inning.
He's retired 8 in a row since the slam to give him a line of 4IP, 2H, 4R/ER, 2BB, 6K so far..... oh, and 6GB outs too - still not recorded an out in the air.

I'd like to get a report on his offspeed stuff, but one has to figure that if he keeps this up, he could become an interesting prospect.

24K and 15GB in 13 innings on the season..... regardless of his prospect status I still find it fascinating that he's doing it.

Gardner allows his first fly ball out of the season in the 5th - a pop out to SS -and Ks two more after a lead off walk.
After the slam, he retired 11 of 12 to take him to 5IP, 2H, 4R/ER, 3BB, 8K and end his day.

That's 26 K's in 14 innings. Dominant stuff.

Bo Greenwell is freaking ridiculous!
Just hit a 3-run HR in the bottom of the 6th to put the Captains up 7-4.
He's 2-for-3 on the night (.457 on the season) and already has 3HR and 18RBI in 12 games.

and a 7/4 BB/K ratio. Definately one to keep an eye on.

...And a walk! Seriously killing it in LC.
So what's the line on his call up date to Kinston at this rate? Wonder how that would all shake out too, who does he take ABs from? Webb? It'll be interesting to see what happens if he keeps up anything close to this level. Awesome to see him take off like this.

Even worse, their logo is a bolt. Whoever designed it must not be at all mechanically inclined (I'm pretty useless with tools - I can use a hammer and screwdriver and straight cut wood with a power saw, that's it) and I can tell a nut from a bolt!

Chen is a middle of the pack prospect. Lower level guy with some upside and good pop who they signed out of Tawain over two years ago.
By the way, I'll be at the game tonight, so if anyone will be there please track me down and say hi.
