The moves of Realini and Dixon surprise me. These moves affect the overall depth and in a domino effect, may rush a player or two.

eh, i really don't think the Dixon move is gonna rush anyone. There so much depth, this may actually be a bit of a blessing for some other players (though not for Dixon).

Realini's retirement is not really surprising. He has had injury issues and at age 24 or whatever spent all season in Low-A. He likely would have been in Kinston this year, but eventually these guys realize it is time to hang it up if the career doesn't look too promising. Especially when you need to start making money and living off more than $15-25K a year.

Dixon's placement on the restricted list does not mean he is out of the organization. it means he is off the team for a non-injury....I wonder what the issue is. I'll try and find out what is going on with him, although if the issue is sensitive in nature I may not be able to find anything out.

I'm surprised to see Dixon mentioned as potentially not coming back. I know he is in a bit of a roster pinch, but his performance last year at Akron showed competence, especially considering the significant improvement in his K rate.

Frankly, I've never seen him as a potential Indians pitcher, unless it would be as an injury fill in for a week or so. However, I figured he would possibly get a shot with a team such as the Brewers or Pirates, neither of which have significant pitching depth in their organizations. I kind of thought he might be one of those guys who ends up at the end of a rotation for a pitching weak club, perhaps brought up as an injury fill in or to replace someone getting hammered.

But his performance certainly didn't seem to indicate he had "no chance" of getting to the majors. In the Eastern League, he certainly seemed to do at least as well as the other pitchers who were in the top 10 in total innings pitched, and he was a top 10 guy in total strikeouts too. His final outing went very well, so he seemed to be able to retain some stuff despite the inning load.

This is a little bit of a puzzle. No big deal, but I'm surprised to see it.

Dixon has indeed retired. Wow, that came out of left field.

Injury issue? Or (I hate to say this) was there drug issues?

Not trying to bash the guy.....just seems like an odd move.....

Here is what Dixon said in an interview I had with him in late August last year.....pretty much sums up the situation if you ask me:

http://www.indiansprospectinsider.com/2 ... tency.html

"Dealing with being a married man and living this lifestyle has kind of been the biggest thing working out the relationship with my wife," said Dixon. "It has probably been the biggest thing in my life right now, and it has given me perspective that there is more to life besides baseball. Figuring out how to make her happy is a big thing I am going through right now. The money we make with me living the minor league lifestyle is enough, but we will try to make some more money in the offseason. It's tough. Right now my wife is doing a great job. She is a nurse and working a whole bunch and it is really helping us out."

With the offseason now here and another season in the books for Dixon, next season could be his biggest as a professional is on the cusp of getting a major league opportunity with the Indians or another team. When and if that happens, Dixon is ready.

"Hopefully I can get to the point where I can make some money and pay [my wife] back," laughed Dixon.

hmm....hopefully he's got a job lined up then.....

Cause in case he hasn't noticed......the market for jobs isn't that great right now. A minor league ball player with Dixon's skills may have been the safest job out there.....
