2009 WBC Thread

Postby dnosco » Sat Mar 07, 2009 10:39 am

Well, no one else started it and, instead of having various threads on this (see Cheng Chang Lee thread) maybe we could have them all in one place?

I think we would all take 'tattooed' as opposed to 'injured' for any Tribe participants.

Could be a short tourny for all Tribe minor league participants. Chinese Taipei is already out so Tseng and Lee are on their way back to the Indians this week sometime. If Panama loses today they will be out so both the Espino's would return this week sometime as well. That only would leave Weglarz, and if Canada loses today they are out....and even if they win today they have to play Venezuela I think on Monday and win that one to advance.

I couldn't believe how big Weglarz is ... though it does look like it's mostly muscle. Quite impressive.

Speaking of impressive -- Rafael Perez was damn filthy yesterday.

Yeah, I think I am going to like this DeRosa guy.

As for the WBC, I have been a fan of it from Day 1.....I just don't like the timing. They should do this in November the two weeks before winter ball starts in the Latin countries. It is just silly how position players can only play half a game or pitchers are so restricted with how long they can pitch and whatnot.

Totally agree. Only thing I can think is baseball (or Selig) doesn't want to compete with football in November (both pros and college). But having it in March the WBC will be competing against March Madness here soon for viewers.....so don't really think March is that much better for it....

I know Japan almost backed out (at least they threatened....not sure how serious a threat though) of the 2006 WBC because they complained about then it was and wanted it in November as well.

Agree on DeRosa, disagree about the WBC. I absolutely hate it. It doesn't help the players competing for team spots, and to me the games and competition are meaningless and useless.

Absolutely hate it.

yeah, speaking of Choo.....

I guess he passed a physical this afternoon with Tribe doctors. He'll keep playing....but sounds like DHing still.

Glad to hear it's not as serious as Shapiro was letting on......

Ha, you can just tell Shapiro absolutely HATES this WBC......and I definitely can't blame him.....

Shin Soo Choo went yard for a 3-run jack in the 1st inning against VEN to help put KOR in the finals. :s_howdy He was able to give his teammates with a scouting report on P Carlos Silva.
Everybody has an opinion on the WBC, but if you don't get hurt, I think it's good experience for your players to play some games under pressure.
