Players That Have... Disappeared
I'm just making a quick little thread here to let everyone post their questions about players that were in our system that have seemed to disappear off the face of the earth.
Mine starts with Justin Hoyman. Is he out of baseball? He was still in the media guide last season, but after three years of injuries I figure he's long gone.

Yes Justin is out of baseball. He never really recovered from his shoulder surgery. He is listed on the released/ retired list the Tony posted in October 2008.

For me, its harder to list someone as missing since I go over prospect listing so much.
One I can't place on where he is playing is Gregorio Rosario (the player the Tribe got for Jason Davis).

Yeah, as I wrote in one up my Winter Haven Updates in March, Hoyman retired because he was having trouble coming back from injury and his velo was barely 82 MPH:

As for Rosario, he is still with the org. He was out in the Instructional League rehabbing an undisclosed injury.

- Got news Justin Hoyman has called it a career. He reported to camp, but left a few days ago. Just did not have it anymore as injuries caught up with him and his fastball never recovered (reportedly around 82 MPH).

Sorry about missing that, didn't catch wind of the site until around the All-Star break last year, so I missed some of the early write-ups. Thanks for the news, though. I figured he was gone, but just wanted to make certain.

Why did Brian Finegan get cut? He hit .400 in the 2007 CL playoffs, then never played in 2008.

Yeah, sort of a surprise he was cut last spring.....but he always had health issues it seems and with Rivero slotted to play SS in Kinston and Rodriguez at SS in Akron....and Goedert at 2B primarily in Kinston...I guess there wasn't a spot for him. Dunno really. I mean, they went and signed Brandon Chaves and put him at 2B in Akron, a spot Finegan could have played.

Thanks for the reply, Tony. So did you turn up any more on the (possible) return of Cevette?

Nothing. But, I am of the belief this was more a standard paper move. He was pretty adamant about retiring when I spoke to him in Frederick last June, and I know that he and the Indians did not see eye to eye on how he was used last year. Heck, he had requested to be released/traded at the end of spring training when he was not put on a full season roster (more players do this than you think, particularly the older guys around for awhile). The Indians didn't want to let him go, so he had no choice but to stay. So, even if he came back, I doubt it will be with the Indians.

How about Tom Cowley? He was a pretty good pitcher that surprisingly got dumped a year or two ago. I thought his prospects were quite good a few years back and then the Tribe lets him go.....

I don't think he will be back with the organization this season. Tony spoke about this guy on one of the shows this fall (I asked about him) and indicated that he had been looking for a AAA slot and wasn't happy playing in Akron.
Unless there are injuries, I doubt there will be a slot in Cbus for him this season.

Sardinha is a FA. He'll sign elsewhere. Buffalo is already crowded with outfielders.

Good Lord. That is the first of many slips I will make this year!

Problem was his OPS at Kinston was under .700 in back-to-back years and he was 25 in 2007. He did play in 2008....with THREE different organizations (Phillies, Nationals, and Pirates)....at age 26, didn't get above AA at any stop......

By the way, anyone wondering where Joe Ness is.....he is still in the org. Had shoulder surgery at the end of spring camp last year and missed all last season as a result....spent the last 8-10 months rehabbing and will be reporting to camp in a few weeks.
