Loons conquer Captains 9-6
Great Lakes batted around and scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning and beat Lake County 9-6. In the seventh inning, the Loons used five hits, an error and a walk to plate four unearned runs. Great Lakes had a total of 16 hits in the ballgame, the most of any opponent against the Captains this season.

Mudcats giveaway late lead, fall to Pelicans, 5-4
Despite leading 3-0 through seven innings, the Carolina Mudcats allowed the Myrtle Beach Pelicans to score five times in the final two innings to win 5-3 on Sunday night. With the score tied at three in the top of the ninth inning, the Pelicans scored twice with the bases loaded on a walk and a hit batsman to grab their first lead of the game.

Errors, cold bats plague Clippers, swept by Bulls
It takes a lot to shake a team – or a player – out of a slump. The most important ingredients in doing so are solid defense and consistent hitting. To get anywhere, there must be at least one of those two. The Columbus Clippers (22-26) are a team in a slump, and the absence of both those traits led to a 5-1 loss against the Durham Bulls (30-21) on Sunday evening.

Akron extends season-long losing streak to four
In front of 7,709 fans and the third sold out crowd of the year at Canal Park, the RubberDucks only managed to get seven hits and were shutout by the Reading Fightin Phils 3-0. Akron’s Toru Murata (3-1, 1.95) struggled early after striking out the side to start the game.

Second Thoughts Game #50: Cleveland 9, Baltimore 0
The departure of Ubaldo Jimenez to Baltimore this past offseason was a matter of much controversy, and one whose consequences came to the fore on Saturday. The result was a one-sided 9-0 Cleveland victory as the offense did a great many things right, and as rising national star Corey Kluber threw seven shutout innings. Lake County Captains beat Bowling Green Hot Rods, 5-4
Other than the Indians themselves, the Lake County Captains were the only Cleveland affiliate to win Saturday, as they beat the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 5-4. Lake County starter Adam Plutko tossed 6.1 innings of six-hit baseball and struck out eight batters. Trevor Frank and Ben Heller tallied a hold and a save, respectively, after combining for 2.1 innings of no-hit ball while Frank struck out two.

Akron RubberDucks lose to Reading Fightin Phils, 3-2, in 12 innings
The Akron RubberDucks took a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning but the Reading Fightin Phils came back to tie it up with solo runs in the seventh and eighth innings. The game ended up going to 12 innings, when Reading scored in the top half and Akron couldn't answer. The RubberDucks finished with 12 hits compared to 10 for Reading.

Columbus Clippers lose to Durham Bulls, 5-2, after early lead
The Columbus Clippers took the on the Durham Bulls Saturday, but lost 5-2 after taking a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. Two fourth-inning runs were all that Columbus could muster on five total hits. Durham racked up seven hits and scored four runs between the fifth and eighth innings to take the win.

Carolina Mudcats take early lead, but lose 6-2 to Myrtle Beach
After taking a 2-1 lead, the Carolina Mudcats fell back before losing to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, 6-2. Carolina starter Shawn Morimando pitched six innings of four-hit, two-run ball, but the bullpen did him no favors as Rob Nixon pitched just two-thirds of an inning and gave up three hits and four runs. Carolina finished the game with 11 hits but three errors.

Finally healthy, Gallas enjoying revival at Carolina

Second Thoughts Game #49: Baltimore 8, Cleveland 4
Faced with a tired bullpen, the Cleveland Indians called up lefty T.J. House for his first major league start. While House put in a crucial six-inning performance, offense was the order of the day, with the Orioles posting 14 hits in an 8-4 defeat of the Indians. The IBI's John Grimm reflects on the performance, both as it relates to the rookie starter's use and to left-fielder Michael Brantley.

Akron holds Reading scoreless through 9, fall in extras
Pitching stole the show for both the Akron RubberDucks and the Reading Fightin’ Phils, leading to a 12-inning, 2-1 win for the Fightin’ Phils at Friday night’s game in Canal Park. The scoreboard repeated zeros for 11 innings, with a home run by Reading’s Edgar Duran breaking the scoreless tie in the 12th inning. A RBI by Brock Stassi brought the Fightin’ Phils lead to 2-0 in the top of the 12th.

Clippers fall to Bulls 3-1 in pitching duel
The way it’s going for the Columbus Clippers (22-24) right now – if it’s not one thing it’s another. Lately, on night’s they can’t pitch, they hit. On Friday night, they could muster only a single run on a ground out in the first inning by Jason Kipnis. The Durham Bulls (28-21) took the second game of this series, and their fourth in a row over the Clippers by a score of 3-1 in front of 9,506 in attendance at Huntington Park.

Hot Rods blank Captains 5-0, again
It was déjà vu for the Lake County Captains (16-32) and Bowling Green Hot Rods (22-25) on Friday night as the Hot Rods took game two of the series by a score of 5-0. Both games so far have gone to the Hot Rods 5-0. The game featured a pitcher’s duel until the Hot Rods pulled away in the bottom of the eighth.
