Lake County Captains lose to West Michigan Whitecaps, 4-1
Wynton Bernard tripled and scored in the bottom of the seventh inning and the West Michigan Whitecaps beat the Lake County Captains 4-1. Lake County has lost back-to-back games after winning the opener in the four game set. West Michigan (14-12) scored in the bottom of the second inning. Ben Verlander singled, and then Harold Castro doubled Verlander to third. Both runners touched home plate on the RBI double from Bennent Pickar and the score was 2-0 Whitecaps.

Smith committed to the game in more ways than one
Committing to anything is tough when one spends six months of the year on the road, but Jordan Smith is managing a dual commitment between baseball and marriage. The IBI's Stephanie Metzger recently caught up with Smith and sat down to talk to him and Akron manager Dave Wallace about those commitments and what he is working on this season.

Fishing for Mudcats: 4/23/14 - 4/29/14
The Carolina Mudcats found an opponent they could not defeat this week: Mother Nature. Four of the team’s seven games were either postponed or cancelled due to rain. Otherwise, Carolina managed a .500 record for the week, earning one win against both Wilmington and Frederick, while also dropping a contest to both clubs. Second Thoughts Game #27: Indians 4, Angels 6
The Indians continue to play bad defense, execute poorly on offense and fail to keep the opposition off the board after they score the half inning prior. All of that leads to a five-game losing streak and poor 11-16 start so far this season. The IBI's Charlie Adams reviews last night's 6-4 loss to the Angels and analyzes key moments in the game where had the Indians gotten just one clutch hit or key pitch they actually may have won the game.

Carolina was washed out again on Tuesday but the Indians had a full slate of games on the day thanks to a doubleheader for Columbus. Urshela, Lindor lead Akron's comeback victory
Giovanny Urshela's two-run, sixth-inning home run and Francisco Lindor's two-out, RBI single in the seventh inning helped the Akron RubberDucks rally from an early 3-1 deficit to defeat the Binghamton Mets, 4-3, on Tuesday night at Canal Park.

Whitecaps Shutout Captains 4-0
First baseman Dominic Ficociello blasted his first homer of the season, and the West Michigan Whitecaps defeated the Lake County Captains (7-18) by a final of 4-0. The homer was a solo shot in the top of the sixth inning and it capped the scoring. On the season, this is the fourth time the Captains have been shutout.

Clippers split error-filled doubleheader with Tides
Doubleheaders have not been kind to the Columbus Clippers (11-13) over the past year. They have been swept in two previous twin bills this season and five straight dating back to July 6, 2013. The Clippers ended that streak with a split against the Norfolk Tides (8-17) at Harbor Park on Tuesday.

Indians manager Terry Francona informed the media on Monday night that right-handed pitcher Carlos Carrasco has been removed from the starting rotation. Lake County Captains outlast West Michigan to win, 5-4
The Lake County Captains beat the West Michigan Whitecaps, 5-4, Monday behind nine hits and solid relief from Kenny Mathews. Starter Adam Plutko lasted five innings but gave up six hits and three runs while walking three and fanning four. Mathews provided three innings of no-run relief on just one hit. Anthony Santander led the offense by going 3 of 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Akron RubberDucks beat Binghamton, 4-0, behind strong pitching
The Akron RubberDucks defended their home diamond Monday by beating the Binghamton Mets. Will Roberts pitched six shutout innings while striking out seven. The Akron bullpen pitched three shutout innings with seven strikeouts, lead by Shawn Armstrong who tallied three strikeouts in his inning of work. Tony Wolters led the offense by going 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Tribe Happenings: How much longer on Carrasco?
The Indians were swept right out of San Francisco on Sunday and with that their short six-game West Coast trip is off to a rough start. They actually pitched well overall, but some key mistakes in the field and one or two bad pitches did them in. The IBI's Tony Lastoria chimes in with his weekly Happenings column on the Indians and talks about how much longer the Indians can afford to stick with Carlos Carrasco, who comes up to replace Yan Gomes when he leaves for the birth of his child, some concerns with Masterson and more.
