Team president Mark Shapiro continually hinted that Cleveland would sign a reliever with closing experience and that prophecy came true Sunday night, as the team agreed to sign former Milwaukee closer John Axford. The only reason Axford was available is due to his struggles in 2012 and 2013 following a dominant campaign in 2011. It was a very light schedule on Monday as the Dominican Winter League and Puerto Rico Winter League were off and the Venezuela Winter League had just two games scheduled. That said, there was some action and the IBI's Michael Hattery recaps it in Around the Farm.

The Indians and right-handed closer John Axford are set to sign a one year $4.5 million deal that will include an additional $1.75 million in incentives based on games finished. He is expected to undergo a physical on Wednesday after which the deal will be formally announced provided he passes it. The Indians have also signed right-handed pitcher Shaun Marcum to a minor league deal.

Per ESPN's Buster Olney, the Indians have an agreement with free agent right-handed closer John Axford. The deal is pending a physical and terms of the deal are not known at this time.

The IBI Tribe Madness tournament pitting the 128 greatest Indians players of all time against one another in an NCAA basketball-like tournament continues with the results from the matchups in the semi-final round of the First Energy Region. With two matchups involving four players, two will move into the Region Finals and two will go home. The region features Tito Francona up against Vean Gregg and a blockbuster matchup with Albert Belle against Al Rosen.

Carlos Santana finally made his Winter Ball debut as well as his debut at third base and had a decent start playing error-less defense and collecting a hit on top of it. The Indians have announced that they have signed infielder David Adams to a major league contract. They have also signed right-handed pitcher Travis Banwart, outfielder Matt Carson and right-handed pitcher Tyler Cloyd to minor league deals and extended them invites to major league spring training.

The Indians continue to focus on picking up young, upside arms from the draft to add to the starting pitching mix in the minors. While they have not had a lot of luck in this endeavor in previous years, they have adjusted the development process for starting pitchers which may help them going forward. One such new arm added to the mix this year was 2013 5th round draft pick left-hander Sean Brady, and the IBI's Tony Lastoria recently sat down and talked with him about his pro debut and the draft.
