Swinging for the Fences: New Year's resolutions
It's a new year, a time when goals and resolutions are made. And while some are planning a new exercise and weight-loss regimen or aiming to get that big promotion at work, Terry Francona and his crew at Progressive Field are setting their sights higher as they hope to push their way to the next level as a ball-club coming off a year where they got a brief taste of postseason play. The IBI's Jake Dungan lists goals for the Tribe in 2014. Quintessential

Around the Farm: December 30, 2013
The Dominican Winter League carried on with its playoffs on Monday night and Carlos Santana made an impact with the bat and also made an appearance at third base. The Venezuela Winter League regular season also came to a close on Monday night, which is also the end of Jesus Aguilar's impressive winter campaign as he will not be playing for his team in the playoffs.

Winter Ball Notebook: Is the Santana third base experiment over?
The DWL playoffs began this past week, and to the surprise of many, the Indians' Carlos Santana was a participant. Santana had been manning the hot corner for Leones del Escogido this winter, but it now appears as if that has changed. Midway through the first playoff game, Santana was moved from third base to first base, and he has remained there ever since. Could it be that the Carlos Santana third base experiment is coming to an end? Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he touches on that and more in the latest edition of the Winter Ball Notebook.

The Winter Ball Experience
The winter leagues in the Latin American countries provide an opportunity for players to play in more games and for Latin American players to play baseball in their home country. It gives some upper level minor league players a stage to showcase their talents and other players a chance to make up lost innings or at bats. In a piece that originally posted this time two years ago, the IBI's Tony Lastoria re-posts this piece with a few updates on the Winter Ball Experience for American players.

IBI Power Poll: Is Danny Salazar elite?
The Cleveland Indians have been protecting Danny Salazar over the years since he has returned from Tommy John surgery. Many questioned why the Front Office has handled him with such kid gloves for such a long period, that is, until he joined the Indians in August and started throwing 100 MPH. Join Jim Pete as he tackles this week's power poll: Will Danny Salazar be a top-of-the-rotation ace, or will he regress?

Two of the Indians big guns were in action in winter ball on Saturday night as both Carlos Santana and Jesus Aguilar played for their teams. Now that the playoffs have begun Santana is starting to be used less at third base and Aguilar continues to tear up the Dominican League in every way possible.

Looking at Danny Salazar's historical season
Before the 2013 season, the last impact starting pitcher Cleveland's farm system produced was Roberto Hernandez way back in 2007. Every elite-level starting pitcher since then was acquired from outside of the organization. That all changed in 2013 when Danny Salazar burst onto the scene. What Salazar did in his 10 regular season starts was nothing short of amazing. Jim Piascik delves into the numbers to show you just how amazing and what to expect from the right-hander in 2014.

As the Dominican Winter League has begun their playoff campaign, Carlos Santana and his Leones ball club are among this year's playoff teams. For Santana, the offensive stats continue to improve, but his defense at third base still leaves something to be desired. In Venezuela, Jesus Aguilar appears to have fallen into another slump. How long will this one last? The IBI's Arthur Kinney recaps all the day's action.

Toole's new "9 in 9" book serves as an inspiration to all
There are more than two million Little League baseball players in the United States. Of that two million, 25,000 will play at the collegiate level and 1,500 will be drafted. The odds of breaking into professional ball are slim. The odds of becoming a professional ballplayer and a published author are even slimmer. Somehow, Justin Toole has managed both before the age of 30. The IBI's Stephanie Metzger recently sat down with the Indians prospect to get his thoughts on his new book and his 2013 season.
