Where the aces are
The IBI's Jeff Ellis has often wondered where the top starting pitchers in baseball come from. Do they come from the draft or internationally? Do they come from college or high school? Is there any rhyme or reason to it all or is there really no such thing as a starting pitching prospect (TINSTAAPP)? He came up with some data which he believes helps answer that question and why the Indians may be a prime position for the 2014 Draft.

Indians stay hot, defeat Chicago 7-2 to keep playoff hopes alive
The last time Chicago beat the Tribe, Danny Salazar was in Double-A Akron. For the 14th consecutive time Tuesday night, the Indians took down Central Division rival White Sox, 7-2. Having won six straight, the team finishes with a record of 17-2 against the ChiSox tying the most victories versus an opponent in the division era. A tale of two moments at the Corner of Carnegie and Ontario
In one five minute span of baseball, the Cleveland Indians went from the high of being three outs away from winning their fifth game in a row, to giving up a ninth inning lead and watching the Astros fall behind the Rangers. Another Cleveland implosion. Then something funny happened. Jason Giambi stepped up to the plate and launched the biggest home run at Progressive Field in recent memory...and the Indians won. Join Jim Pete as he looks at the two players that put the entire town in their own personal roller coaster.

Second Thoughts Game #157: White Sox 4, Indians 5
Tuesday night will go down as one of the more memorable finishes in the 20 year history of Jacobs/Progressive Field. Given the circumstances and what had just transpired in the top of the ninth inning, pinch hitter Jason Giambi sent all of Cleveland into a mardi gras like celebration with a clutch two-out two-run homer to give the Indians the win. The IBI's Michael Goodman shares his second thoughts on an amazing come from behind win and avoid a devastating loss the final week of the season.

Giambi walk-off homer sends Tribe to biggest victory of the year
There are moments in baseball that make you believe something special is happening, especially in a pennant chase. For the Indians, their most special player just may be a 42-year old with a .181 batting average. With the Tribe trailing 4-3 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, pinch hitter Jason Giambi took White Sox closer Addison Reed deep for a game-winning walk-off homer to give the Indians a remarkable 5-4 win.

Notes From the Wigwam: Indians control their own destiny
We've officially reached the stretch run. With just six games left to play in the 2013 MLB season, the Cleveland Indians' record sits at 86-70, and the team is in possession of one of the two Wild Card spots. It may be hard to believe, but the Indians actually control their own destiny moving forward. Things are certainly looking up for the Tribe and a lot of that has to do with the team's brilliant performance this past week. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he recaps the week that was in the weekly IBI staple, Notes From the Wigwam.

Second Thoughts Game #156: Indians 9, Astros 2
Forget Tribe Town, how about Sweep City? In front of the largest Sunday crowd of the season, the Indians bats exploded for nine runs on 13 hits against the Astros to complete the four-game series sweep over Houston, 9-2. Sitting in the driver's seat for one of the American League wild card spots, the Indians (86-70) are now 16 games over the .500 mark for the first time since Aug. 27, 2007. The IBI's Jim Berdysz shares his second thoughts...

Indians rout Houston 9-2 to maintain wild card possession
With a 9-2 victory over the Astros, the Indians swept their sixth four-game series of the season, becoming the first team to do so since the 1961 Yankees, a team that featured sluggers Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris and won the World Series. Michael Brantley and Michael Bourn each had two RBIs as Cleveland clings to their possession of one of the two wild-card spots. Join the IBI's Nathan Kemp as he recaps the victory.

Second Thoughts Game #155: Indians 4, Astros 1
It felt like it was October at the corner of Carneige and Ontario Saturday night. Putting up three runs in the first inning, the Indians made quick work of the Houston Astros for the 4-1 win. Scoring four runs on 16 hits in the first two games of the series, the Tribe scored four runs off Astros starter Paul Clemens through the first four innings. That was far from being the storyline of another Cleveland win though, as Indians starter Scott Kazmir continued his quest for the postseason with another brilliant performance.

Indians jump on Astros early to win, keep lead in wildcard
The Indians began Saturday with a half-game lead over Texas for the second American League Wild Card spot and finished the day with the same lead thanks to Scott Kazmir who pitched seven shutout innings and Cleveland scored three runs in the first as the Indians beat the Houston Astros 4-1 Saturday night at Progressive Field.
