Around The Farm: August 15, 2013
Is there anything better than seeing a top prospect take his team to victory? Sure, Lake County would not have won 1-0 without a shutout pitching performance, but Dorssys Paulino's solo home run provided all the offense the Captains needed. Paulino has continued to turn things around following his rough start and he sustained that constant progress Thursday night. To read about Paulino and everything else you need to know about the night in the minor leagues, join Jim Piascik as he goes Around The Farm.

Oh man, Daniel Bowman had a game on Thursday night. The Crushers right fielder finished the day 4-for-5 with a home run and 5 RBI. He led the charge as the Crushers defeated the Wild Things 11-1 to complete their second-straight sweep and third-straight at All Pro Freight Stadium. They have won 16 of their last 18 games.

Pelicans rally over Mudcats 5-4
After taking an early lead, the Carolina Mudcats allowed the Myrtle Beach Pelicans to come back and take the lead before losing a heartbreaker 5-4 on Thursday night. Paulino's home run, Morel's pitching leads Captains to 1-0 win
The Lake County Captains defeated the South Bend Silver Hawks 1-0 due to several scoreless innings from reliever Luis Morel on Thursday night. Shortstop Dorssys Paulino put the Captains on the board right off the bat as he welcomed Shipley with a solo home run in the first inning. The solo shot was Paulino's fifth of the year.

Head-ing in the right direction
One pitcher who is on the rise as far as relief prospects go in the Cleveland Indians system is High-A Carolina reliever Louis Head. After being cut in college from the Texas Tech baseball team, he has since rebounded to not only get himself drafted and signed by a Major League Baseball team, but become an interesting relief prospect. The IBI's Zachary Francis recently caught up with him and tells his tale...

Sailing with the Clippers: 8/8/13 to 8/14/13
The Clippers are starting to make up some ground in the International League playoff hunt but they may be a little too late. With their recent 4-2 week, Columbus sits six games out of the Wild Card spot and seven contests behind the Indianapolis Indians for first place in the IL West with 18 games left to play. The IBI's Ethan Day recaps the week that was for the Clippers...

Second Thoughts Game #121: Indians 9, Twins 8
On the heels of the two most disappointing series of the year, the Indians entered Wednesday's game with the Twins hoping to secure a series win and gain some momentum. Hoping to turn their luck around against Richmond Wednesday night, the Aeros couldn't stop Richmond from scoring late in the game as an eighth inning three run home run by Richmond's Mark Minicozzi took the game right out of the Aeros hands, and they lost 4-3.

Around The Farm: August 14, 2013
Considering that Carlos Santana, Yan Gomes, and Lou Marson were all not developed in the organization, it is great to see catchers like Jake Lowery and Alex Lavisky performing like they did Wednesday night. The catching depth looks good in the minors and Lowery and Lavisky are a part of that. To read about what made their performances noteworthy and everything else you need to know about Wednesday night in the minor leagues, join Jim Piascik as he takes you Around The Farm.

Crushers hold on for 7-5 victory
The Crushers scored early, and then they hung on for dear life. After jumping out to a 6-0 lead, the Crushers out-lasted a 5-1 Wild Things rally to win their seventh-straight game and move into a tie for first place with Traverse City, who lost to the Frontier Greys 5-3.
