IBI's resident sabremetrics' specialist Michael Hattery takes a close up look at the Cleveland Indians offense in comparison to the Tigers, re-examines Lonnie Chisenhall's potential premature demotion earlier this year and subsequent promotion, and analyzes why the time may be now to pull the trigger on an Asdrubal Cabrera trade. Become a trend setter with Michael Hattery, IBI's trend spotter...

The AZL Indians dropped their fifth straight game Friday night in a 8-5 loss to the AZL Angels. The AZL Angels, who own the second best record in the Arizona Rookie League, proved to be too strong and took advantage of eight walks issued by the AZL Indians, turning them into four of their eight runs on the evening.

Second Thoughts Game #93: Royals 0, Indians 3
You have to give this young man credit. Here we are nearing the All-Star Break and not only has Corey Kluber filled a role vacated by the long-injured Brett Myers, he has taken tremendous strides practically out of nowhere to become a reliable and even at times dominant major league starter. Join the IBI's Jake Dungan as he recaps another gem tossed by the right-hander.

Crusher sweep twinbill, clear .500 mark for first time
For the first time this season, Lake Erie cleared the .500 mark by winning both seven inning games of a double header against the Frontier Greys Friday night in Avon. Winning game one in a pitchers duel 2-1 with reliever Mickey Jannis on the hill, the Crushers held on to the momentum for a 7-2 thrashing in the second game.

The Beloit Snappers (15-6, 58-33) scored two runs in the last two innings to walk-off and sweep the Lake County Captains (12-9, 35-53) by a final score of 7-6 on Friday night. The Captains’ bullpen faltered for the third straight night as the Snappers walked-off twice in the series.

Mudcats lose in pitcher's duel 1-0
The Carolina Mudcats came up on the wrong side of a pitcher’s duel, falling to the Frederick Keys 1-0 Friday night. The loss drops Carolina’s record to 9-11 in the second half and 31-59 overall.

Around The Farm: July 12, 2013
It was another night of good and bad on the farm in the Indians farm system, and the IBI's Arthur Kinney recaps it all. Also, the biggest news of the night was not the performance of any one player, but the announcement that shortstop Francisco Lindor has been promoted to Akron.

Carson’s triple in 8th sets up 2-1 victory for Columbus
Perhaps it was the “lucky” green uniforms the Clippers were wearing on Irish Heritage Night at Huntington Park or maybe it was the clutch hitting in the bottom of the eighth inning. Regardless, Columbus prevailed against the Toledo Mud Hens Friday with a narrow 2-1 victory.

Kingham outduels Roberts as Aeros lose 3-1
A season-high 7,021 fans came out to Canal Park and witnessed an entertaining pitcher's duel Friday night. Unfortunately for the home crowd, the Akron Aeros came out on the wrong side of things. Kluber shuts out Royals 3-0
Corey Kluber pitched scoreless baseball into the eighth inning and Michael Bourn had a two-run, pinch hit double as the Cleveland Indians beat the Kansas City Royals 3-0 in the opening game of the final series before the All-Star break. As usual, the Indians struggled against Bruce Chen, but they did just enough to pull away with another win and more to 49-44.

"The Sandlot" Anniversary Tour comes to Classic Park
The stories that touch the heart are the ones that come from the heart. “The Sandlot” is clearly a film about baseball set in the 1960s, but its inspiration derived from a real-life experience. David Mickey Evans directed and narrated “The Sandlot” 20 years ago and is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the film with a tour of several ballparks, where the film is being shown. Included in this tour is Classic Park, home of the Lake County Captains. The IBI's Stephanie Metzger recently spoke with Evans to discuss the film.

Second Thoughts Game #92: Blue Jays 2, Indians 4
Two things dominated the pre-game commentary for this game. The first being the major league debut of Danny Salazar, and the second being the chance to grab a series win against Toronto as the All-Star break approaches. As it turns out, Salazar was sensational and the Indians came away with a much needed 4-2 win. The IBI's Michael Goodman shares his "second thoughts" on the game...

Another day, another rough outing for the Indians pitching staff. I had to look twice to make sure that the box score was correct when I saw that the Giants scored 10 runs in the top of the eighth. This is the fourth straight game where the Indians pitchers have allowed at least eight runs in a game.

Around The Farm: July 11, 2013
Early in the afternoon, former ATF darling and highly regarded prospect Danny Salazar led the big league club to victory. A success story like Salazar shows exactly why following these prospects is fun: you are getting a glimpse at the major league contributors of tomorrow. A few players were doing their best Salazar impersonations Thursday, including a first baseman at Columbus trying to jumpstart his season and an outfielder rehabbing in Arizona trying to get back. For all this and more, join Jim Piascik as he takes you Around The Farm.

Offense stumbles as Scrappers lose doubleheader
Thanks to a rain-soaked Wednesday, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers and Tri-City Valleycats played a doubleheader Thursday, with both games scheduled for seven innings. Mahoning Valley’s pitching staff performed extremely well, allowing only seven hits combined. But the offense once again faltered, and the Scrappers dropped both games.

Clippers clobber Mud Hens 10-3
An all-out offensive assault of seven extra-base hits lead the Clipper to a 10-3 beat down of the Toledo Mud Hens Thursday. Right-hander Carrasco (3-0, 3.29 ERA) was solid in his first start since being optioned from Cleveland on July 7. After pitching phenomenally through the first third of the game, a rough fourth inning knocked the starter of course a bit and forced him to exit the game early in the sixth inning.
