The Crushers Notebook: 5/28/13 to 6/2/2013
After struggling to the tune of a 3-6 start to the season, the Crushers managed a .500 week, taking two of three from Florence and one of three from Joliet over the weekend. The team is now 6-9 on the season, but is still trying to find a level of consistency. The IBI's Kyle Ferrara shares the details in his weekly Crushers notebook.

Notes from the Wigwam: Bullpen woes take toll
It was a rough week for the Cleveland Indians as the team's left-handed bullpen options continued to let them down and played a key role in the team finishing 3-4. Of course, if there is a positive, it's the fact that the Detroit Tigers struggled as well during the past week and only lead the Indians by a half game in the American League Central. The Indians will attempt to get things back on track this week, but before they do that, take a moment to join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he recaps this past week in the IBI staple, Notes from the Wigwam.

Slammers slam Crushers 9-5
Joliet's bats proved to be too powerful as the Slammers jumped on Lake Erie (6-9) early and never looked back on their way to a 9-5 win Sunday and a series victory. Lake Erie starter Matt Rein (1-2) was in for a rude welcoming as he wasn't even able to make it to the third inning.

Second Thoughts Game #56: Rays 11, Indians 3
Sunday’s at Progressive Field haven’t been too good for the Indians this season, as the team dropped the rubber match against the Rays, 11-3. The Tribe is now just 1-3 on Sunday at home, averaging just three runs a ballgame over the four games. Three runs was all Cleveland would manage against Rays starter Jeremy Hellickson and starter Zach McAllister struggled for the first time this season. Jim Berdysz shares his "second thoughts" on the game...

Mudcats lose again, 15=6
The Winston-Salem Dash completed a series sweep against the Carolina Mudcats with a 15-6 win at BB&T Ballpark Sunday afternoon. Home runs from first baseman Jerrud Sabourin and centerfielder Tyler Naquin weren’t enough to make up for the performance of the struggling Mudcats bullpen.

Indians crush Clippers, 13-3
COLUMBUS- There is a popular saying in baseball, “You live and die on the long ball.” In the Columbus Clippers case Sunday, they definitely died by it. Led by seven homeruns, the Indianapolis Indians routed the Clippers in a 13-3 affair on Sunday.

Rays hammer Tribe 11-3
Evan Longoria and Yunel Escobar both hit two-run home runs as the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Cleveland Indians, 11-3. With the win, the Rays won the rubber match of the three-game series, improving their record to 31-25. They are now 2.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox in the American League East, though they sit in fourth place in the hotly-contested division.

Whitenack's continued troubles sink Aeros 8-1
The Akron Aeros fell behind quickly Sunday afternoon as starting pitcher Robert Whitenack once again faltered, starting the team down the road to their 8-1 loss against the Reading Fightin Phils. Akron (26-31) managed to leave FirstEnergy Stadium with a series win, though the team obviously would have liked to sweep Reading (21-33) over the weekend. The team remains six games out of first place after the Erie SeaWolves lost as well Sunday against the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

Fishing for Mudcats: Tyler Naquin takes over...
The first half of the Carolina League season has turned into an observance of players rather than team. While the Muddies have several interesting prospects, none seem to be able to drive in or score enough runs to win ball games. Still, there are several intriguing players, and former top pick Tyler Naquin has been taking center stage. Go fishin' with Jim Pete as he details the Muddies week that was.

Second Thoughts Game #55: Indians 5, Rays 0
With no rain or any chance of rain delays in the forecast, the Indians got a much needed victory Saturday afternoon over Tampa Bay, as they shutout the Rays, 5-0. Ubaldo Jimenez (4-3, 4.83 ERA) looked sharp over his eight innings of work, allowing just one of his four hits in the ballgame for extra bases.

Around the Farm: June 1, 2013
The first day of June brought several interesting performances by Cleveland Indians prospects. Lonnie Chisenhall doesn't appear to be all that enthused about being back in the minors, and is trying to do something about it. Cord Phelps is another player that tasted the big leagues in 2013, but seems to be going in another direction. Join Jim Pete for Saturday's ATF to find out about Chis, Phelps, and a whole lot more.

Clippers battle but lose to Indians 10-9 in tenth
The Columbus Clippers just can’t seem to catch a break these days. After trailing 5-0 early in the game, the Clippers battled back to take a 8-5 lead but could not hold on to it as they collapsed against the Indianapolis Indians 10-9 in extra innings Saturday.
