Mudcats bats go silent, Potomac takes series with 5-1 win
The Carolina Mudcats fell behind early and did not get going offensively until it was too late to fall to the Potomac Nationals 5-1 on Thursday night. The loss drops the Mudcats record to 11-16 after the Nationals took three out of four games. Mudcats starting pitcher Cody Anderson struggled early but settled down to throw six innings, giving up 11 hits, five runs, all earned, with five strikeouts, one hit batsmen, but no batters walked.

Salazar fans 12 as Aeros win 4-1
On Thursday morning, the Aeros completed their series against Altoona with a 4-1 win. Akron took three out of four in the series against the Curve, but the story of the day was the pitching of Tribe prospect Danny Salazar. Sailing with the Clippers: 4/25/13 - 5/1/13
The Columbus Clippers finished their fourth week of the season capturing four wins in the six games played and now stand at 14-12 on the year. The Clippers offense has struggled in the early going as they have scored five runs or less in 20 games this season, and are 5-0 when scoring more than five runs. The best news from the week was the recovery of right-handed pitcher Carlos Carrasco who was hit by a line drive on April 25 against the RailRiders. Go "sailing" with Cameron Weimer in his weekly Clippers notebook...

The Indians entered Wednesday’s game on a three-game winning streak, outscoring their opponents 33-5 in that span. For seemingly the first time all season the team has been able to get their offense and pitching staff on track at the same time. Bauer was not perfect Wednesday, but he kept the Phillies off of the board and Cleveland won again. Indians, Bauer shutout Phillies for fourth straight win

The Indians offense powered their way to their fourth straight win as they shutout the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-0 to complete the two-game series sweep. In a matchup that featured former Tribe lefty Cliff Lee in one corner and Indians top prospect Trevor Bauer in the other, the past essentially met the future. Aeros hold off late comeback from Altoona, win 5-4
Despite a late comeback bid from Altoona, the Akron Aeros were able to secure their 12th win of the season 5-4. Altoona started their late inning rally in the eighth off of Aeros pitcher Bryce Stowell. A Chen two-run home run gave the Aeros a 5-2 lead in the seventh, and thanks to Stowell, that was a lead they would not relinquish. The Aeros move to 12-14 on the season, while the Curve fell to 11-15 after the Wednesday night loss.

Valerio’s Late Game Blast Rallies Mudcats Past Potomac
Carolina Mudcats catcher Charlie Valerio’s second home run of the year came at just the right time. His tenth inning, game-winning home run lifted the Mudcats past the Potomac Nationals 3-2. With the win on Wednesday night, Carolina stopped a four-game slide. Owen Dew earned the win in relief for the Mudcats. The right-hander tossed a scoreless eighth inning and allowed just one hit. Jeff Johnson closed the ninth for his fifth save.

On-Deck with the Captains: 4/24/13 - 4/30/13
The Lake County Captains posted a 3-5 record since last Wednesday, but things are looking better as the offense is starting to come alive and the bullpen has provided some good outings. The warmer climate seems to be helping the starting pitchers a bit too, as the rotation crafted some better outings. The bullpen, however, hasn’t been able to hold opponents back as too many leads have been blown by the relievers. Join the IBI's Stephanie Metzger in his weekly Captains notebook....
