Salazar's encouraging start has him on way to Columbus
Akron Aeros' right-handed pitcher Danny Salazar is presently 2-3 with a 2.67 ERA and a 51:10 K:BB. In three appearances from April 20-May 2, Salazar didn’t allow an earned run. On Tuesday, his final start with the Aeros, he tossed five innings against the Erie SeaWolves and yielded just one run. He is still working on his secondary stuff, but is expected to be promoted to Columbus in the next few days. Stephanie Metzger has the story...

Second Thoughts Game #30: A's 0, Indians 1
The Indians won a nail-biter on Tuesday night with a 1-0 win over the Athletics at Progressive Field. Behind the strong pitching of Zach McAllister, whom they got from the Yankees for Austin Kearns in July of 2010, and some key plays by Yan Gomes the Indians were able to come away with their eighth win in their last nine games. Did I mention the Indians got McAllister for Kearns? The IBI's Jake Dungan gives his second thoughts on the game...

Crushers camp rolls along, but decisions are still far off
No one said baseball was easy, and for the 36 guys fighting for 24 spots on the Crushers' final roster, one opportunity can't be wasted manager. Players are being put through the gauntlet with 15 straight days of practices and games leading up to the first game of the season on May 17. As the 36 man roster is whittled down to 24 players by the start of the season, Crushers' manager Jeff Isom talks about how tough it is to make changes this early in camp.

The team's hot streak has moved them within one game of second place in the Western Division and out of the basement of the Eastern League. The IBI Hot List is back for another week and recaps the hot (and some cold) performances in the Indians system over the past week. The top 20 performances over the past seven days are ranked with some commentary, and the five worst showings are also ranked with some commentary there as well. This week I take a look at the hot showing by shortstop Francisco Lindor, outfielder LeVon Washington, right-hander Jordan Cooper, outfielder Logan Vick and others, and then also look at the recent struggles of shortstop Dorssys Paulino, first baseman Jesus Aguilar, left-hander Shawn Morimando and others.

Second Thoughts Game #29: Indians 7, Athletics 3
The Indians got back on the winning path on Monday as they belted four homers and beat the Athletics, 7-3. One of those four homers was a gigantic moon shot of a homer off the bat of Mark Reynolds, who got sweet revenge after he had just been hit with a pitch in an earlier at bat. Also, Ubaldo Jimenez was good for his second straight start. The IBI's Kevin Dean talks about that and more...

Around The Farm: May 6, 2013
It was a quiet night in the Indians' farm system as the Columbus Clippers were rained out and the Carolina Mudcats were off. However, there was still plenty of action to recap as Ryan Merritt pitched an impressive contest for the Captains, and Chun-Hsiu Chen continued to show that he may have regained his power stroke. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he recaps their performances and more as he takes you Around the Farm.

The 2013 Transaction Rundown: April 29-May 5
Ezequiel Carrera stopped in Cleveland for a cup of coffee (one of those really small ones they serve espressos in), Dice-K went on the DL (likely causing the entire Japanese sports media set up camp outside Clippers trainer Jim Quinlan's office), and the mass exodus (or is that M*A*S*H* exodus) to DLs all over the org continued. However, in the good news department, some of the Wounded Wahoos from the Big Club began to take their first steps toward their respective returns to The Show. Join the IBI's Arthur Kinney as he covers all of this and more in this week's Transaction Rundown...

One last shot at a dream trying out for the Crushers
The IBI's Matt Lofgren woke up Sunday morning a little bit earlier than usual with the anticipation of playing organized baseball for the first time in six years and the chance of doing something great. Getting out of bed was no issue as he loosened up and stretched out for the Lake Erie Crushers' tryout day.

Notes from the Wigwam: Just win, baby!
It's been a great week for the Cleveland Indians as the Tribe went 5-1 to get back to .500 at 14-14 and move into third place in the AL Central. Ryan Raburn was scorching hot at the plate as he went 11-for-13 across a three-game span to lead the Tribe. Trevor Bauer also made his return this past week, and it appears as if he now could be on his way back... and for good. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he recaps the week that was in the weekly IBI staple, Notes from the Wigwam.

Second Thoughts Game #28: Twins 4, Indians 2
As the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end. Cleveland snapped their six-game winning streak Sunday afternoon as they fell to the Minnesota Twins, 4-2. Tribe bats cooled off considerably as the team was blanked by a strong pitching performance from Twins starter Mike Pelfrey (3-3, 6.35 ERA). Indians starter Corey Kluber (2-1, 3.06 ERA) worked out of some early trouble to surrender three runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings, but the solid effort was not enough.
