Mudcats stunned by Nationals, lose 9-8 in extras
The Carolina Mudcats stormed out to a 7-3 lead, but could not make it hold as the Potomac Nationals rallied for a 9-8 win in 10 innings on Wednesday night at Pfitzner Stadium. The Nationals (26-32, 57-71) scored five unanswered runs over the last three innings for the win. Carolina drops to 28-31 in the second half, and 60-69, after enduring another tough loss.

Scrappers blow lead in ninth, lose 3-2
The Scrappers just keep finding new ways to lose. After dropping the first in their series against Batavia Monday, it looked like they would squeak by in the second as they carried a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the ninth. It wasn’t to be, however, as a Muckdog rally aided by a costly error was enough to propel them past the Scrappers 3-2.

Fishing for Mudcats: "It's a Dog Eat Dog World..."
With the stretch drive in full swing, the Carolina Mudcats unofficially called it a season, going 1-5, and falling into last place in Carolina League Southern Division. There are 16 games left, and I'm sure the Tribe brass it's evaluation time, as the club starts looking at some of the talent for a potential move to Akron in 2013.

IPI Hot List: 2012 Week 20
Tony chimes in with a new edition of the IPI Hot List, a piece that will become a weekly staple next season and ranks the top 20 performances in the Indians' system from the past seven days. In no way does it rank or list players based on value; it is simply a snapshot of the top 20 performances from the past week without any discrimination regarding whether a player is a prospect or not. In this week's list Tony provides insight and updates on players like Cord Phelps, Danny Salazar, Dorssys Paulino, Mitch Brown, Mason Radeke, Rob Nixon, Ronny Rodriguez, David Huff, Anthony Santander, and lots of others.

Second Thoughts: Game #123 Mariners 5, Indians 1
Through six innings last night it was an impressive battle between Felix Hernandez and Roberto Hernandez, but things unraveled quickly for the Indians in the seventh inning and they lost to the Mariners 5-1. The loss is the Indians 17th loss in their last 18 road games and their 20th loss in their last 24 games. These are not good times of late for the Indians or their fans. Jim Berdysz shares his second thoughts on the game.

Around the Farm: August 21, 2012
Ronny Rodriguez continues to play above his head at High-A Carolina. On Tuesday night, the 20-year-old infielder launched his 17th home run of the 2012 campaign. Plus, Tim Fedroff finally starts to get out of his recent funk by putting together a solid two-hit performance with the Clippers. Jesus Aguilar also seems to be starting to pick up steam with the Aeros, and Hector Rondon makes his return to the mound for the first time in almost a year. All this and more as IPI's Steve Orbanek takes you Around the Farm after the jump.

Aeros lose on walkoff blast, 3-2
Erie’s Tony Plagman drilled a two-out, game-winning, solo homer in the bottom of the ninth inning Tuesday night, sending the SeaWolves into celebration mode with a 3-2 win over the Akron Aeros at Jerry Uht Park. With the bases empty, Plagman, a third year pro out of Georgia Tech, yanked a 2-1 pitch from Rob Bryson over the right field fence for the game-winner.

Scrappers lose opener in Batavia, 4-1
A four run second inning was all the Muckdogs needed Tuesday, winning 4-1 and delivering the Scrappers their fifth loss in six days. Luis Morel got the start for the Scrappers, and pitched well were it not for the disastrous second inning.
