Around the Farm - April 17, 2012
Chun-Hsiu Chen is finally starting to stretch his legs a bit as the Aeros new first baseman, but today's ATF headliner is a former top draft pick of the San Diego Padres, that has turned into a strikeout artist for the Columbus Clippers this season. Mudcats can't hold late lead, fall 5-3
The Carolina Mudcats blew an eighth inning, one run lead to give the Wilmington Blue Rocks a 5-3 victory at Frawley Stadium on Tuesday night. The Blue Rocks came up to bat in the bottom of the eighth inning facing a 3-2 defiect. Mudcats’ reliever Dale Dickerson had replaced fellow reliever Shawn Armstrong with two outs in the seventh inning after pitching nearly three scoreless innings, holding Wilmington to just two hits while striking out four batters.

Captains continue to sink with 8th loss in a row
EASTLAKE - The Lake County Captains are sinking as they dropped their eighth straight game in a 5-2 loss against the West Michigan Whitecaps on Tuesday night.

Baysox get by Aeros, 4-2
Akron left-hander T.J. McFarland struggled to throw strikes and Aeros hitters failed to advance runners Tuesday night at Canal Park, as the home team fell to the Bowie Baysox 4-2. Bowie right fielder Buck Britton opened the game with a single and advanced to second on a throwing error by Akron shortstop Juan Diaz. After a ground out to third, Britton scored the game’s first run after a McFarland wild pitch. McFarland labored through the first inning, throwing 32 pitches (16 strikes).

Kluber, Pagnozzi lead Clippers to victory
The Columbus Clippers beat the Indianapolis Indians in game one of their series 5-1 on Tuesday night. The Clippers offense was lead by catcher Matt Pagnozzi who went 2-for-2 in the game, including a double, home run, two RBI, two runs, and a walk. It was Corey Kluber’s turn in the rotation to pitch for Columbus, and he finished the game going six innings allowing one run and fanned seven batters. He was also able to pick up the win giving him a perfect 3-0 record in three starts this season.

Indians officially sign Johnny Damon
Today the Cleveland Indians announced that they have signed free agent outfielder Johnny Damon to a minor league contract for the 2012 season.
Damon, 38, owns a 17-year career Major League batting average of .286 with 1643 runs scored, 516 doubles, 107 triples, 231 home runs and 1120 RBI in 2,426 games with six teams since debuting with the Kansas City Royals in 1995. He has also stolen 404...

Smoke Signals 4/17: Thank God for the Royals edition
Tonight is another edition of the popular on-line radio "Smoke Signals" hosted by Tony Lastoria and Jim Pete. They will discuss the recent Johnny Damon signing and what it means for the Indians, if he can help, and when he may be ready. Aeros dump the Baysox, 7-3
Second baseman Ryan Rohlinger slugged an opposite-field, three-run home run in the third inning Monday night, helping the Akron Aeros to a 6-3 win over the Bowie Baysox in the opening game of a three-game series at Canal Park. Rohlinger’s homer, his second of the season, came off Baysox starter Bobby Bundy (1-2) in the third inning, and gave the Aeros a 4-0 lead. After singles by Jared Goedert and Adam Abraham, Rohlinger drove a pitch into the right field bleachers. He now has five RBI’s on the season.

Adam Abraham is starting to see his hard work pay off in Akron, while Trevor Crowe continues to annoy those that demand he not be mentioned in the same breath of the Indians. Captains losing streak reaches seven with 7-2 loss
The Lake County Captains lost their seventh consecutive ballgame with a 7-2 loss to the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Monday night in front of 1,212 fans at Classic Park. West Michigan scored two runs off of Captains starter Felix Sterling in the first inning. Shortstop Eugenio Suarez coaxed a one out walk and then designated hitter Dean Green hit a two run home run to deep center field, his third of the season.

Wilmington crushes Carolina, 9-2
The Carolina Mudcats first game outside of North Carolina this season wasn’t pretty. The Wilmington Blue Rocks defeated the Mudcats 9-2 at Frawley Stadium on Monday night. Carolina is on a down swing, dropping two of their last three games, bringing their season record to 5-5. For Carolina, the game didn’t begin as poorly as it ended. The Mudcats managed to gain an early 2-0 lead over the Blue Rocks in the top of the first inning.
