Paul Cousineau and I have decided to cancel our Smoke Signals broadcast tonight. The reason is simply because of two words: LeBron James.
With James expected to formally announce his decision around 9:10 PM EST tonight about what team he will sign with, we felt it next to impossible to do an Indians show when everyone else (including us) will be locked into the events as they unfold on TV....

Gimenez Understands The Tough Road Back
Chris Gimenez has had an up and down season so far in 2010.
Gimenez received a 100 at bat cup of coffee with the Indians in 2009 and despite a hot-start, had trouble adjusting to Big League pitching. This year he came out of the gates strong by OPSing 1.013 in April and bashing 5 HR

Packer Is Mr. Reliable
Talk about jumping onto the prospect radar.
Low-A Lake County left-handed starting pitcher Matt Packer had a heck of a month of June where in five starts he went 4-0 with a 1.19 ERA. In 30.1 innings he allowed just four runs on 29 hits, 4 walks, and had 31 strikeouts. His super effort bumped him above a trio of Triple-A Columbus players in third baseman Jared Goedert, infielder Josh Rodriguez,...

The Lake County Captains dominated the Eastern Division of the Midwest League throughout the first half and, as most know, they won the first half division title in dramatic fashion on the last day of the first half.
After having five players named to the All-Star game, the Captains opened the second half on the road in suburban Grand Rapids, Michigan with a three games series against the...

Akron's Week That Was: 6/28 - 7/4

Their 4-3 win over Richmond on Tuesday ended a four-game losing streak and started a four-game win streak. After two five-run wins over Bowie on the road the Aeros dropped two close ones to close out the series, including an extra-inning walk-off loss on Independence Day.
Here is everything...

While watching the fireworks blast over Lake Benson here in Carolina last night, I couldn't help but think of the state of the Kinston Indians and their past week. Kinston rolled out a 4-2 record this week as their roster continued to transition into the second half.
Kinston's offense has struggled to put runs on the board for most of the season, and with most of their offensive weapons...

The Cleveland Indians today announced they have placed outfielder Shin-Soo Choo on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 3, with a right thumb sprain. To replace Choo on the active roster, the Indians recalled outfielder Michael Brantley from Triple-A Columbus.

The International Signing Period
This is an updated reposting of an article originally written by Dennis Nosco for this site three years ago. With the International Signing Period starting up today (July 2nd), I felt this was a good article to update and repost as it pretty well explains the whole international signing process. It should also be noted that all comments from Lino Diaz and John Mirabelli are from three years ago and...

The Scrapperbook: Week Two
Free agency is finally underway in the NBA and on day one, we already witnessed some ridiculous contracts being agreed to, but the most perplexing of all has to be Raptors F Amir Johnson, who averaged 6.2 points/4.8 rebounds/0.6 assists last year, agreeing to a 5-year, $34 million contract. Something tells me this is only the start of money being thrown every which way in the coming weeks.
Closer...
