In this week's Three Up, Three Down, we take a look at uber-prospect Matt LaPorta, Beau Mills' recent hot hitting, as well as the struggles of Mr. Perfect and Matt Cassell's brother.
Three Up:
Matt LaPorta has not let his struggles at the major league level effect his mindset in AAA, as he has picked up right where he left off in the middle of the Clippers lineup. LaPorta is hitting...

Putnam Has An Exciting Future In The Bullpen
In case you have not noticed the Indians are in dire need of bullpen help.
They have exhausted almost every option available to them at the big league and Triple-A level only to find a few band aids to cover the holes in a bullpen that was a train wreck each and every night the first six or seven weeks of the season. The current bullpen really is a patch job of duck tape, bandages, and super...

If you are like most professional baseball fans you know that every June there is a draft where your team gets new players. Some of them sound really exciting when you read about them in the newspaper or on the internet but most you have never heard of.
You probably know that these guys your team drafted are amateur players, just like in other sports. You probably also know that some of them...

Lake County was rained out (again).
Clippers lose one; rained out in another
The Clippers dropped the opening game of a double-header in Charlotte 9-1. The second game was rained out.
The Knights jumped all over Kirk Saarloos in the second inning, scoring eight times, capped off by a Daryle Ward three-run homer. Saarloos lasted only two innings, taking his seventh loss of the...

Minor Happenings: Webb Excelling At The Top
"Minor Happenings" covers the important developments and news in the Indians farm system. While most of the information in this report is from my own research and through interviews I have conducted with organizational personnel, some information in this report is collected and summarized from the various news outlets that cover each team.
Last night, Paul Cousineau and I had the pleasure of...

For tomorrow's (Saturday) double-header, RHP Jake Westbrook is expected to begin his rehab assignment with a start in game one. In game two, RHP Brian Grening has been called up from extended spring training and likely will make a spot start. If he does not start he will fill a much needed bullpen role backing up Westbrook in game one or eating some innings in a "bullpen-by-committe" start in game...

Today, the Indians announced they activated DH Travis Hafner from the 15-day DL. To make room for Hafner, they demoted struggling starter, Fausto Carmona, exercising his last minor league option.
UPDATE: Fasuto has actually been sent to the rookie-level Arizona Summer League, not Columbus.

Former Indians owner Dick Jacobs has passed away from a longtime illness at age 84. He owned the team from 1986 to 1999, and was instrumental in getting the Gateway Project passed which brought the Indians a new ballpark in Jacobs Field in 1994 and brought the Cavaliers back downtown for basketball later that same year. His teams from 1994-1999 enjoyed the greatest run of success in franchise history...

The Columbus, Kinston, and Lake County games were postponed due to rain.
Aeros fall
Akron scored four runs in the first three innings but managed just three hits over the final six frames, and the Reading Phillies came from behind to post a 7-4 win before 3,520 fans at FirstEnergy Stadium Thursday night. Reading moved to 30-22 and tied Erie for second place in the Southern Division,...

With 1 out in the 4th tonight in the Akron Aeros game, literally like 20-25 minutes ago, RHP Hector Rondon threw a pitch that was described by the broadcaster as very slow and up and Akron Pitching Coach Ruben Niebla shot out of the dugout followed by Manager Mike Sarbaugh and the trainer. After a very short discussion, Rondon was pulled from the game. No idea what happened, but given the state of...

Well, after a week off, Paul and I are back on tonight and there certainly is a lot to talk about with all the injuries and roster changes of late, not to mention all of the trade rumors of late regarding the Indians.
We did not have a guest scheduled tonight because all of the games tonight for the affiliates were at 7pm, but with everyone being rained out we attempted to get someone on tonight...

Lake County's game was suspended in the fouth inning due to rain.
Clippers down Charlotte
On an evening where four players in the Clippers line up combined of eight of their nine hits on the evening, it would be enough to beat Charolette 6-4.
Michael Brantley, Tony Graffanino, Matt LaPorta, and Andy Marte each had two hits on the night. The other hit came off the bat of Wyatt...

The Comeback Kid
Left-handed pitcher Chuck Lofgren is having a sensational season and has been one of the best comeback stories of the year in minor league baseball.
Just a year ago Lofgren came into the 2008 season ranked as a top five prospect in the Indians system in virtually every publication that ranks prospects, but a season last year that affected him mentally, emotionally, and physically saw him tumble...

Clippers fall 3-1 in Charlotte
The Clippers couldn't overcome mistakes and missed opportunities in a 3-1 loss to the Charlotte Knights.
A throwing error by Gordon Beckham allowed Mickey Hall to score the first Clippers run in the third inning. Michael Brantley moved to third on the play, which started with a Brantley bunt. Starter Jose Contreras then walked the bases loaded, but the...
