Columbus Pounds Out 9-7 Win
Columbus got a hard fought 9-7 win on Friday night, getting very good starting pitching and lots of offense in a game that was not as close as the final score indicated. Some bullpen issues late in the game made it a lot closer than it should have been.
Right-hander Jack Cassel got the win and was very good going seven innings allowing just two runs, six...

Tonight, I had the opportunity to travel to Canal Park to watch the Aeros play host to the Altoona Curve in the first game of a four-game series. While the box score indicates that the Aeros prevailed, 9-5, the box score does not tell the whole story …
Jose Constanza: Yes, Constanza went 1 for 3 and drove in a team- and game-high four runs, three of which came on a bases-clearing double that,...

The domino effect from the Tony Sipp callup to Cleveland continues. With RHP Josh Judy being promoted from Kinston to Akron yesterday, the Indians activated RHP Mike Pontius from extended spring training.

Minor Happenings: Berger Is King
"Minor Happenings" covers the important developments and news in the Indians farm system. While most of the information in this report is from my own research and through interviews I have conducted with organizational personnel, some information in this report is collected and summarized from the various news outlets that cover each team.
Lots to cover this week. In case you missed them, earlier...

Clippers lose lead late
Indianapolis scored a run in each of the first two innings before Columbus tied it up in the bottom half of the second inning. Jordan Brown and Chris Giminez hit two straight singles with one out and then Josh Barfield hit a double, driving in Brown. Stephen Head also hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Giminez.
Indianapolis took the lead again in the top half of the...

Today, RHP Greg Aquino was placed on the Columbus disabled list and LHP Zach Jackson replaced him on the roster. With RHP Scott Roehl leaving Akron and joining Columbus, the Indians filled his vacant spot in the bullpen by promoting RHP Josh Judy from Kinston to Akron.

Clipper bats power way to win
The Clippers got off to an early 5-0 lead to start the game with Josh Barfield, David Dellucci, Matt LaPorta, Andy Marte, and Stephen Head each picking up hits in the first inning.
In the third, Louisville fought back to score three via an RBI double and a two-run home run.
In the bottom half of the fouth, the Clippers stole the three runs back...

Im sitting here getting ready to watch the results show of American Idol and I have to say that this year is a solid group of singers. I have a couple of favorites, but I cant spill the beans yet. While I am sitting here making my predictions of who will still be here next week, I thought I would take you through the first week of the season.
It's been two weeks now since I have arrived in...

Today, left-hander Tony Sipp has been called up to the Cleveland Indians. Taking his place on the Columbus roster is right-hander Scott Roehl who was called up from Double-A Akron. With the Indians optioning out lefty Zach Jackson to Columbus today, Roehl's stay in Columbus should be a short one as Jackson will eventually fill that roster spot once he reports.

Finally Healthy, Sipp Is Ready To Contribute
Two years ago at this time left-hander Tony Sipp's career took a major turn for the worse.
Near the end of spring training in 2007, Sipp came down with a strain to the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his pitching elbow which resulted in the Indians completely shutting him down for the first half of that season. After the pain did not subside when he started a rehab throwing program a few...

Columbus loses late again, 3-2
On a night when the weather was suited more for playoff hockey than baseball, the Columbus Clippers couldn't hold two separate early leads and lost 3-2 Tuesday night to the Louisville Bats. Homer Bailey pitched six innings, allowing only two earned runs and six hits for the win.
Tomo Ohka had the start for the Clippers and looked good through 5 innings...

The 1st place Akron Aeros beat the Bowie Baysox 6-3 on Sunday in Bowie on the strength of an outstanding starting pitching performance from Chuck Lofgren. Lofgren gave up one run on just two hits in 6 innings of work, striking out three and walking just one. Some quick hit thoughts on the game:
Lofgren wasn’t overpowering, but he was extremely effective. He had the Baysox off balance all day,...

Huntington Park Exceeds Expectations
This past Saturday was a day of celebration in Columbus, Ohio.
It was the home opener for the Cleveland Indians new Triple-A affiliate the Columbus Clippers, and the city and fans were welcoming Indians baseball to the town for the first time in decades. In a marriage that was long past overdue, the Indians now have their Triple-A level farm team in their home state's capital. Not many teams,...
