This is an article from August 2007 after my visit to Kinston. I thought some who missed this on TheClevelandFan.com the first time around may be interested in it. In the coming weeks, every Thursday I'll continue to post more of these older articles that were written before this blog began a year ago.
I was in Kinston, North Carolina this past weekend, and in addition to the several players...
There has been some confusion over the last few days about the eligibility of some of the Indians minor leaguers for the Rule 5 Draft who signed future contracts. The players in question are as follows:

Carlos Santana (C)
Carlton Smith (RHP)
Isaias Velasquez (INF)
Neil Wagner (RHP)

Since the last update, the Surprise Rafters have gone 0-2 to lower their overall record to 9-21 for the season.
Player Updates (11/09 - 11/11): -
LHP Chuck Lofgren - Lofgren struggled again on 11/11; in part due to poor defense, but also due to poor control. He allowed 6 runs (all unearned) in only 0.1IP as a result of 3BB, a HBP and two errors (including...
The Hot Stove Season in Major League Baseball will officially kick off this coming Friday November 14th when teams are permitted to start talking to and signing free agents. In addition to that, the trade season will start to kick into full gear before it reaches its climax during the Winter Meetings December 8-11.
In years past, the start of the Hot Stove Season has opened with little fanfare...

This is an unofficial listing of the Indians 2008 Rule 5 Draft eligibles. In the coming days, players from this list will be added to the Indians 40-man roster before the November 20th roster deadline. This list will be updated as these additions occur, and will be added to the right panel in the resource section for quick reference.
Note that the minor league...
Remember that 2008 Indians Rule 5 eligibles list I posted almost two weeks ago? Well, as I mentioned the list was unofficial and there may be some changes (for the better) with who is actually available.
Since I have written the "Who Gets Rostered" article last week, I have been made aware of some things and this listing will be changing as I verify more information.
So what changed?...
Arizona Fall League
The Surprise Rafters record sits at 9-19 on the season; they sit in last place (3 teams) of the AFL National Division.
Player Updates (11/05 - 11/08): -
LHP Chuck Lofgren - Lofgren pitched a scoreless inning on 11/06 to give him his first scoreless outing of the Fall season (8 games) and lower his ERA to 29.70 for the season (6.2IP, 8H, 31R, 22ER, 12BB,...
Time for another Saturday rundown to recap all the happenings in the system from this past week as well as a few news items:
Anthony Castrovince did a nice piece on right-hander Adam Miller this week on Indians.com. To summarize the article, Miller's stat line in the Dominican Republic so far (1-1, 6.48 ERA, 16.2 IP, 17 H, 4 BB, 12 K) is better than it looks and he is up to 97 MPH consistently....

This is an article from August 2007. Alcombrack played at Mahoning Valley in 2008 and looks primed to be the regular catcher in Lake County to start the season in 2009. I thought some who missed this on TheClevelandFan.com the first time around may be interested in it. In the coming weeks, I'll continue to post several more of these older articles that were written before this blog began a year ago.
Paul and I will be talking about the 5th starter battle coming in spring training that looks like it will come down to four lefties in Laffey, Sowers, Lewis and Huff. David Huff himself is also scheduled to call in around 10pm and talk about his 2008 season, what looms in 2009, and much more.

The Puerto Rican Winter gets underway tomorrow (11/06) and the rosters have now been announced.

Arizona Fall League
You saw in our Arizona Fall League update yesterday how Indians prospects are fairing in the league. So, again let's just refresh your memory with their overall numbers for the Winter season.
Player Updates: -
LHP Chuck Lofgren - 7G, 5.2IP, 18H, 31R, 22ER, 12BB, 5K, 34.94ERA
RHP Erik Stiller - 8G, 11IP, 22H, 22R, 15ER, 4BB, 8K, 12.27ERA
The Surprise Rafters continue to struggle in the AFL, as they sit in last place in the league with a record of 6-17. The Rafters team ERA of 7.81 is the highest in the league, as are the 195 strikeouts the pitching staff has recorded. Maybe the Rafters need to take a page from Crash Davis...stop trying to strike everyone out. Strikeouts are boring, and besides that, they're facist. Throw some more...
