Tribe pitching stumbles in loss to Reds
GOODYEAR-Things started off on the right foot for the AZL Indians as they battled their next door neighbor in Goodyear and scored three early runs against the Reds. First baseman Nelson Rodriguez did the bulk of the damage as he crushed a 3-run homer over 410 ft. to centerfield after D’vone McClure and Jorge Martinez reached base on a HBP and single, respectively.
However, Dillon Howard struggled on the night in his lone inning of work. Howard’s fastball ranged from 86-88 MPH and topped out at 90. Unlike his previous outings, Howard struggled even with his off-speed stuff that he couldn’t throw for strikes on the night. The 2011 second rounder threw 38 pitches, just 55% for strikes, and generated two swing and misses in his inning. The defense never seems to be sharp on games that Howard starts which could be a byproduct of his slow pace.
