Starting the fourth game at home of the second half of the 2013 season, The Captains fell to the TinCaps Saturday night, 5-0.

This brings Lake County's record to 5-5 and marks their fourth loss in a row. Despite having three hits on Saturday night, the TinCaps were much more dominating with their 12 hits. They spread out their scoring throughout the night, scoring three in the second inning, one in the sixth and another in the seventh.

With left-hander Ryan Merritt starting for Lake County, pitching six and a third inning, he allowed 12 hits, five runs which were all earned, struck out two and allowed one home run. The TinCaps started left-hander Max Friedwho played five innings, allowing only two hits, two walks and struck out three.

Even though the TinCaps had nine more hits than the Captains, Scooter Tucker doesn’t think the slump will last long. “Hitting is contagious, just like a lot of things in baseball, confidence only does so much.”

Despite four straight losses, it was the first time in the last six games that Lake County allowed an error, which is a positive turnaround from the steady games full of errors from the first half of the season.

“Five games ago, they were knocking the cover off the ball,” said manager Scooter Tucker. “After the three games in Dayton you would not think that was the same group of guys, they swung the bat extremely well.”

Saturday’s game was also the first game in Lake County for left fielder Todd Hankins, who was demoted from Carolina on Friday. He went 0-4 in his debut. Center fielder Logan Vick, right fielder Anthony Santander and designated hitter Jeremy Lucas had the only hits for The Captains.

The Captains continue their three game series against the TinCaps on Sunday with a 1:30pm game, Sunday’s game is also family fun day at Classic Park.
