Talking draft with Brad Grant
We are amazingly less than a week away from the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft, or more technically known as the First Year Player Draft or Rule 4 Draft. The draft commences on Monday night at 7:00 PM with the first round and supplemental first round picks and will be broadcast live on the MLB Network.
This will be the fifth draft that Indians’ Director of Amateur Scouting Brad Grant oversees the entire operation. Since taking the reigns as the main guy in 2008 the Indians have had quite a bit of success in the draft under Grant with players like Lonnie Chisenhall, Jason Kipnis, Alex White, Drew Pomeranz, Cord Phelps, and Zach Putnam all making it to the big leagues and enjoying varying success.
Over the weekend I had a chance to sit down with Grant for about a half hour to discuss lots of things pertaining to the draft. With the new CBA there are a lot of new twists and rule changes with the draft and this draft is not as deep as previous drafts. He shared his...
