Tribe News

  • Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer wrote that he believes the Indians need another solid starting pitcher to go with Corey Kluber more than they need a bat.

Others News and Notes

  • WEEI.com's Rob Bradford wrote that the Red Sox would like to re-open contract extension talks with Jon Lester, but as of right now there has still been no progress toward an extension.
  • According to Greg Johns of MLB.com, Mariners top pitcher prospect Taijuan Walker will make his 2014 big-league debut.
  • With rookie shortstop Chris Owings heading to the 15-day disabled list, the Diamondbacks have recalled shortstop Nick Ahmed. According MLB.com's Steve Gilbert, another injured Diamondback, Eric Chavez, may consider retirement after being placed on the 60-day disabled list with an injured knee.
  • In other Arizona news, Buster Olney of ESPN reported that Brandon McCarthy a $1 million assignment bonus if he is traded.
  • Milwaukee selected the contract of infielder Jeff Bianchi from Triple-A Nashville.

Note to Hoynes: What the Tribe needs is a SS who can catch the ball. I thought that the proverbial "All field-no hit" SS was a dime a dozen. Let's get one to replace the "No field-no hit" specimen that we've been trotting out there all season.
