  • The New York Yankees ace pitcher might not be done yet. Masahiro Tanaka has not pitched in a game since playing the Tribe on July 7th. He was experiencing elbow inflammation after the game and was placed on the 15-day DL the next day. At the time of injury, he was one of the best pitchers in the American League as he was 12-4 with a 2.51 ERA and 135 strikeouts. He threw 49 pitches in a simulated game last week in Detroit but had soreness in his elbow. He threw a session on Tuesday and will throw another one on Saturday. “Let’s just take that and see how it goes,” Girardi said. “When he gets through that, I’ll decide what’s next.” The Yankees are hoping the sessions and treatment will help him avoid Tommy John surgery. They only have 24 games left but Girardi maintains that Tanaka will throw in a game before the season is over. “He will pitch somewhere, he has to throw,” Girardi said. “You can’t wait until next spring.”
  • Homer Bailey will undergo surgery to repair a small tear in the flexor of his right forearm. Bailey signed a six year, $105 million contract in February.

Tribe News and Notes

  • After showing signs of improvement, Mike Aviles is experiencing concussion symptoms. He has not been placed on the 7-day concussion DL and does not have a timetable for his return.

  • Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Caleb Gindl cleared waivers and was outrighted to AAA.
  • Outfielder Mike Carp has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to AAA by the Texas Rangers.

  • The San Diego Padres have outrighted infielder Chris Nelson to AAA after clearing waivers.
  • Jon Heyman of CBSSports reports that the Seattle Mariners have released righty reliever Todd Coffey. The Mariners believe they have enough depth as a contending team and want Coffey to find another opportunity with a contending team who could use his services.
  • According to Buster Olney of ESPN, even though there are indications that the Miami Marlins are not going to trade outfielder Giancarlo Stanton, a package of top prospects could be too much for them to turn down.

If they decide not to give Kershaw the MVP in the NL and Stanton wins it, that puts his value up even higher meaning they would want more for a potential trade.

He wasn't placed on the DL. Tito doesn't know what they're going to do with him right now.

Who would we have to package to get Stanton? is it about 5 to 6 players? Down here in Cincy, during the trade deadline the Marlins/Reds had discussions of trading Stanton for Chapman straight up.

Note, Aviles was NOT put on the concussion DL.

I still think the Indians may possibly have a package to get Stanton.

Francona said the same thing, no need.

I'd love to see Stanton in a Tribe uni. but the cost would be astronomical. I'm curious what other hitters might be available? The only one that comes to mind is Mark Trumbo, who missed a large portion of the season. Maybe Alex Rios, he was rumored to be on the mkt, but I don't see Texas moving him going into a new season.

Why place Aviles on the concussion DL? It's September with it's 40 man roster.
