In this MLB News and Notes segment, I will be giving occasional reports on the latest news and rumors throughout the MLB.  I also will try to tweet news and rumors as I see them, so feel free to follow me on Twitter: @ajnicholsIBI.

Here are the stories from Sunday, June 22nd.

Top Stories

  • The Padres have fired general manager Josh Byrnes and hope to find a replacement by the end of this season.  San Diego posted a record of 184-215 under Byrnes.

Tribe News

  • Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported that the Indians may be working on a small trade to send lefty reliever Josh Outman elsewhere.

News and Notes

  • According to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, the Dodgers are considered the favorite by many to land Rays ace David Price.  Topkin also believes that the Braves, Angels, and Indians all make sense for Price, and Cleveland had scouts at the lefty’s last start.
  • David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the Braves will not be in the running for Price, citing the fact that the team is already over budget.
  • Astros top prospect Carlos Correa is awaiting word from medical tests on his injured left ankle and there is some fear in the organization that he could miss a significant chunk of time.
  • According to Cafardo, the Red Sox spent some significant time last week watching Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp.
  • Catcher Wellington Castillo was active from the DL by the Cubs and the team designated fellow catcher Eli Whiteside for assignment.

Shy do you realize when Walt Jocketty left St. Louis Antonetti was offered the Cardinals job? Did Antonett isteal your wife or girlfriend? The trade with the bluejays could be one of his biggest steals.Stop the hate, you troll!

David Price is on the decline. I watched him in 3-4 consecutive starts this year where he looked really tired, and was really hittable. You want to get these guys on the way up and not on the way down. Not surprised Byrnes fired as GM in San Diego. You just don't see enough GM's fired in my opinion. The blame always seems to fall on the field manager. Plenty of talented assistant GM's in waiting. Antonetti should have been let go when Manny Acta was fired in my opinion, but he was able to convince Dolan the team's poor record was Acta's fault. Who's he going to blame this year?
