In this MLB News and Notes segment, I will be giving occasional reports on the latest news and rumors throughout the MLB. I also will try to tweet news and rumors as I see them, so feel free to follow me on Twitter: @AndrewIBI.

Here are the stories from Monday, May 19th.

Top Stories:

  • C.C. Sabathia received a stem-cell injection in his right knee last week and will be out of action until at least July, Yankees GM Brian Cashman told Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Tribe News:

  • According to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com, Jason Kipnis, who is currently on the 15-day disabled list, took Monday off from swinging because he took an aggressive approach over the past few days, advancing from tee work to hitting live pitching in the cage. Prior to Monday's game, Kipnis did some fielding drills and tested his recovering side with some sprints on the basepaths. Kipnis hopes to begin a Minor League rehab assignment by the coming weekend.

  • Bastian also reported that Nick Swisher was on the field early Monday to field extra ground balls at first base. Defense has been a team-wide problem this year for Cleveland, which led the Majors with 45 errors through Sunday. Terry Francona said the Indians will have a team defense workout prior to Tuesday's home game against Detroit.

  • Francona also noted on Monday that the Indians still plan on activating veteran designated hitter Jason Giambi from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday.

News and Notes:

  • Cuban outfielder Daniel Carbonell has received five offers from Major League teams, all of which range from five to seven years in length, MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez reported. Carbonell is said to be looking for a four-year deal. If he doesn’t sign by July 2, Carbonell’s signing bonus will count against his new team’s 2014-15 international signing period pool money.

  • Alex Rodriguez told advisers last summer that he was considering retirement rather than go through a lengthy battle with Major League Baseball over his record PED suspension, according to Teri Thompson, Bill Madden, Michael O’Keeffe, Christian Red and Nathaniel Vinton of the New York Daily News. Rodriguez was convinced to fight his suspension, however, after consulting with Desiree Perez, a New York nightclub manager affiliated with Jay Z and who also played a role in Robinson Cano signing with the Mariners. Rodriguez may have been motivated to listen to Perez in part because, as the article states, he would like to become a player agent, possibly with Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports agency.

  • Reds GM Walt Jocketty and Tigers assistant GM Al Avila were both mentioned to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal as names to consider for the Diamondbacks‘ general manager job should Tony La Russa fire current GM Kevin Towers. La Russa has ties to both Jocketty and Avila, though Rosenthal notes that La Russa hasn’t discussed possible GM replacements with D’Backs upper management, plus there’s still a chance Towers could be retained.

  • The Marlins have released veteran right-hander Carlos Marmol, the team announced.

  • The Phillies have signed right-hander Shawn Camp to a new minor league contract, Baseball America’s Matt Eddy reported. Camp rejoins the organization after electing to become a free agent last week rather than accept an outright assignment to Triple-A.

Does anyone know how many or what percentage of Asdrubal,Cabrera's errors are committed in the ninth inning or later?
