  • Tuesday's loss to the Tigers looked as if it spelled doom for the Tribe and their division and playoff hopes. In two games they were outhit by Detroit 39-15 and the bullpen showed their exhaustion. It was painfully obvious after Cody Allen gave up a three-run home run to J.D. Martinezto give the Tigers the 4-2 win and a 2-0 series lead. However, Danny Salazar and the Tribe offense showed no signs of giving into the pressure on Wednesday. Salazar threw his first complete game shutout against the vaunted Tigers bats. He dropped his ERA from 4.23 to 3.80 and had nine strikeouts and no walks. His fastball was electric and his changeup fell off the table all night long.
  • While Salazar shutout the Tigers, the other big story was the reawakening of the Tribe bats. Jose Ramirezwent 3-for-4 after going 0-for-8 in the two previous games. Carlos Santana started off the game as he did on Tuesday by hitting a two-run homerun off of Justin Verlander for his 24th of the year. Verlander threw 108 pitches in only 6.2 innings and gave up seven runs. The Indians are the only team that he has the most losses against in his career at 9-12. Hopefully this is the spark the Indians need to continue their playoff push as they finish up the series on Thursday with Detroit and get ready for the Chicago White Sox.
