Storylines: Rays may be rethinking trade options

Here are the stories from Tuesday, July 1st.

Tribe News

  • Cleveland's pitching coach Mickey Callaway believesDanny Salazar could find his back into the Indians rotation this season. Jordan Bastian of MLB.com noted that Callaway said: "I think he will once he's ready. He's going to be able to help us out a lot -- kind of like he did last year. He's got the stuff. We're looking forward to having him back in the rotation at some point."

Others News and Notes

  • Rays owner Stuart Sternberg told Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune that his team may now be more likely to hold off on making any trade decisions due to team's recent success. Tampa Bay is now within 10 games of first in the AL East.
  • According to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports, the Yankees have had some interest in Padres third basemanChase Headley in the past, but right now they aren't strongly pursuing him.
  • Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reported that Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said his club is not looking to make any significant acquisitions at this time.
  • The Red Sox announced that veteran lefty Chris Capuano has cleared waivers and the team has released him. Boston is still on the hook for the rest of his salary and Capuano is now free to sign with any team.
  • Boston traded lefty reliever, and former Indian, Rich Hill to the Angles in exchange for cash considerations.
  • Texas has called up righty Miles Mikolas to start Wednesday's game. Lefty starter Joe Saunders has been designated for assignment to make room on the roster for Mikolas.
  • Baltimore has returned Rule-5 pick infielder Michael Almanzar to the Red Sox.
  • The Dodgers acquired Minor League first baseman Brock Peterson from the Nationals in return for cash considerations.
