Tribe News

  • Manager Terry Francona said that pitcher Shaun Marcumis still in Arizona as he recovers from July surgery to relieve thoracic outlet syndrome. Francona said that Marcum has been built up to three innings, but there is no timetable for when he will join a Minor League affiliate.

News and Notes

  • Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports wrote that if the Diamondbacks continue to struggle, manager Kirk Gibsonand general manager Kevin Towers could both be on the hot seat.
  • Rosenthal also wrote that the Tigers still remain an ideal landing spot for free agent shortstop Stephen Drew. Detroit would have to wait until June to sign Drew in order to keep their first-round draft pick.
  • According to Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle, A’s starter Scott Kazmir said that he strongly considered signing with the Astros this offseason. Kazmir went to high school in the Houston area.
  • In order to make room for Ike Davis on the 40-man roster, the Pirates designated first baseman Travis Ishikawa for assignment.
  • Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com tweeted that veteran infielder Cesar Izturis has several Triple-A offers from clubs, but he is still hoping for a big league opportunity.
  • Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reported that the Rangers have joined the long list of potential suitors for free agent reliever Joel Hanrahan.
  • Heyman also wrote that pitcher Dontrelle Willis, who was released by the Giants, would like to become a pitching coach.
  • Tim Rohan of The New York Times wrote that the trade of Ike Davis may have opened up a spot for veteranBobby Abreu on the Mets roster.
