In this MLB News and Notes segment, I will be giving occasional reports on the latest news and rumors throughout the MLB. I also will try to tweet news and rumors as I see them, so feel free to follow me on Twitter: @ajnicholsIBI.Here are the stories from Tuesday, April 29th.

Here are the stories from Tuesday, April 29th.

Top Stories

  • Arizona's top prospect Archie Bradley was placed on the Minor League disabled list with a mild flexor strain in his elbow. Diamondbacks' broadcaster Steve Berthiaume tweeted that the club's general manager Kevin Towers said there is no structural damage in Bradley's throwing arm.

Tribe News

  • Pitcher Scott Baker, currently with the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate, has a May 1 opt out date, and Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com tweeted that he has heard the White Sox and Indians could have interest in the righty. Over the winter, it was reported that Baker was choosing between signing with the Mariners or the Indians. He chose Seattle and was released in Spring Training.
  • Jason Kipnis left Tuesday night's game with an abdominal strain. If he hits the disabled list then Jose Ramirez might be in line for a promotion to Cleveland - though Justin Sellers would also be in consideration.

Others News and Notes

  • Last week, A's assistant general manager David Forst said that no course of action had been decided yet regarding A.J. Griffin's arm injury, despite reports of Griffin needing Tomm John surgery. On Tuesday, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reported that Griffin will indeed undergo Tommy John surgery.
  • Yankees' starter Michael Pineda, who is currently suspended due to his pine tar debacle, will have an MRI after leaving his simulated game with a sore lat muscle, according to Newsday's David Lennon.
  • According to C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Reds' closer Aroldis Chapman could make a rehab appearance in Dayton on Thursday.
  • Brewers' pitching prospect Johnny Hellweg underwent Tommy John surgery on Tuesday. In other Tommy John news, Rangers pitcher Pedro Figueroa will also undergo the procedure.
  • Baltimore, who just recently designated Steve Pearce for assignment, has now re-signed the infielder/outfielder to a Major League deal. It is expected that the Orioles will use Pearce to try to make up for the temporary loss of injured star Chris Davis.
  • The Blue Jays optioned struggling second baseman Ryan Goins to Triple-A and recalled former Royals' infielder Chris Getz. In order to make room for Getz on the 40-man roster, Toronto designated righty relieverMickey Storey.
  • Veteran utility man Greg Dobbs by designated for assignment by the Marlins to make room for infielder Ed Lucas, who was reinstated from the disabled list.
  • The Mariners released 32-year-old righty Ramon Ramirez from their Triple-A affiliate.

I have to agree with Tony, Ramirez deserves a shot and would probably out perform any of the other options. We are still trying to win this year, right? I like the Aguilar suggestion to add needed offense but the defense sucks right now & Ramirez would improve that.

If Kipnis goes on the DL for 3-4 weeks and the Indians think starting Aviles or Johnson at 2B makes sense in the interim over Jose Ramirez who is a legit starting quality second base option.....then shame on them. I agree they may not go that route....but if they are merely going to callup another Justin Sellers, George Kottaras, Roberto Perez or other fungible 24-25th roster guy, then they deserve what they get.

When it rains it pours for the D'backs. You lose your #1 starter in Corbin to TJ. Your trade Skaggs for Trumbo who is on the DL. Now your #1 Pitching prospect has a arm issue.

Yep. I'm not at all confident that Ramirez would come up if Kipnis lands on the DL. Nothing would make me happier than Ramirez getting a look as the everyday 2B, but I'm pretty sure it won't happen. I'm willing to bet Tito would bring up an 8th/9th reliever again instead.

Ramirez up would make a ton of sense but would not be surprised at all if he isn't the one brought up, not with how the Tribe has handled roster moves to this point this year.

Really don't "need" another infielder even if Kipnis goes on the DL. Could go with Santana/Chiz at 3B and Aviles/Johnson at 2B and be ok...you even have Raburn who could get a couple looks at 2B.

An interesting move IMO would be calling up Aguilar or a catcher to replace Kipnis. As said, still have plenty of depth on the infield....and with Raburn playing more OF and maybe 2B, would open up the DH spot (or 1B if Swish DHs) for a bigger bat like Aguilar...

Again, Ramirez would make the most sense but then again we are talking about the same team/roster that has had Johnson on it all year despite never really playing....

If clean pants Kipnis goes on DL Ramirez is coming up . If johnson gets lets go Ramirez gets the nod. Did anyone notice ramirez is also playing outfield at columbus?
