In this MLB News and Notes segment, I will be giving occasional reports on the latest news and rumors throughout the MLB. I also will try to tweet news and rumors as I see them, so feel free to follow me on Twitter: @ajnicholsIBI.

Here are the stories from Wednesday, April 9th.

Top Stories

  • Angels' outfielder Josh Hamilton suffered a torn unlar collateral ligament and a torn capsule in his left thumb. Many reports had stated that Hamilton would undergo surgery and be out 6-8 weeks, but the Angels organization stated that surgery is not a certainty, and that Hamilton will see a doctor on Friday to determine the proper course of action.

Tribe News

  • Michael Bourn feels that in a best case scenario he could be ready to be reinstated from the DL as early as Sunday. He is scheduled to play consecutive games on Thursday and Friday with Double-A Akron.
  • Jason Giambi is currently scheduled to begin his Minor League rehab assignment on Friday with Double-A Akron.

Others News and Notes

  • Buster Olney of ESPN polled executives from teams around the league to get an idea of what they would pay free agents Stephen Drew and Kendrys Morales right now. The highest numbers he heard were $10-$12 million annually for Drew, and $8-$10 million annually for Morales.
  • Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said in a radio appearance that he is not panicking about his team's slow start, but that he is also not afraid to make changes to the club if they don't improve.
  • Righty reliever Kameron Loe agreed to a Minor League deal with the Royals. Loe will head to Triple-A Omaha, and his contract includes a June 15th opt-out clause.
  • The Rangers designated righty Seth Rosen for assignment and purchased the contract of former Indians' prospect Kevin Kouzmanoff.
