Smoke Signals s7e7: West Coast sweep edition

Smoke Signals s7e7: West Coast sweep edition

After a little hiatus since the start of the season Smoke Signals is back.

As most of you know, we temporarily did away with the Blog Talk Radio format. There were various reasons for this, but it mostly came down to cost and some issues with the quality of the shows. We recently adopted more of a podcast format instead of the live radio format, though we will get back to the live radio shows on Blog Talk Radio next week!

However, there will be a slight change to the format. Instead of a regular hour long show, we will now break up Smoke Signals into two 30-minute episodes each week on Tuesday and Thursday night around 10:00pm ET - around when the Indians game completes. We will also use the podcast option as we see fit when we want to do longer shows that focus on other things and perhaps have an interview with someone in the Indians organization.

We hope that you will continue to listen in to these shows and apologize for the lack of consistency with the show at the outset of the season. We have been experimenting with some ideas and some life events have gotten in the way, but we should be good to go just about every week from here on out. We may also look into bringing back the weekly interview segment which was so popular a few years ago!

Anyway, in today's podcast IBI draft guru Jeff Ellis steps into the co-hosting chair and joins Smoke Signals regular Tony Lastoria to talk about the Indians recent 0-6 showing on the West Coast. They look at the Indians 11-17 record in April and the struggles with the defense, hitting and pitching and offer up some very ugly numbers in comparison to last season and wonder what (if anything) can be done to fix these issues that have permeated the entire team.

Sit back, listen and enjoy! Also, these shows can be downloaded at SoundCloud.com and can be listen to directly on your phone with the Soundcloud app!

John, we will be back on iTunes once we go back to the live shows next week. Should be the same feed as before through BlogTalkRadio. Also, the podcats through Soundcloud are on iTunes as well just a different feed.

Avory, thanks. Indians are in a tough spot here. Very little flexibility and they failed in almost every facet of the team in April. Hopefully May is better because if not, then they have a big problem on their hands.

Excellent discussion covering all facets of the April debacle, with a lot of provocative and interesting commentary, including a sobering breakdown on why the team is pretty much boxed in with what we have. There's not a lot of flexibility to change much, so for the team to get better, what you see is what you get, and we need to see the team get back to more normalized performance or this is going to be a very long summer.

Didn't agree with everything I heard, but when is there a far-ranging talk about baseball where there isn't some disagreement? Definitely a must-listen for all fans of the team, and let's hope we can turn those frowns upside down in May. Although, it's looking more like its Tomlin Time next week than it is "Bauer Power."

Great job by both Tony and Jeff, can't wait for the next installment.

So, no iTunes. Ugh. That's not good for business, Tony!!!!! But, keep them coming anyways. Oh well. Also, IBI on Site is very nice.
