HARRISBURG, PA – Akron RubberDucks right fielder Jordan Smith blasted a one-out, RBI triple to center field in the top of the ninth inning Friday night, setting the stage for a 2-1 victory over the Harrisburg Senators in the opener of a three-game series at Metro Bank Park.

Smith’s triple, his first of the season, drove in Alex Lavisky from first base, and broke a 1-1 tie. Lavisky had opened the ninth by drawing a walk from Harrisburg righthander Neil Holland (5-2). The triple was Smith’s second hit of the night, and drove in his 21st RBI. He’s now 4-for-11, with three RBI on the road trip.

The RubberDucks (44-30) won for the fourth straight game, going a perfect 4-for-4 on the current road trip. They remain 2 ½ games ahead of second-place Richmond, who won at Erie, 4-3.

After Smith secured the lead, right-hander Enosil Tejeda worked a perfect ninth for his third save. Tejeda made a winner of Bryan Price (1-0), who worked around a two-out double to record a scoreless eighth.

Gabriel Arias made the start for Akron, his first appearance for the Ducks since May 19. He spent the last month with AAA Columbus, but was sent back to Akron last Monday when Danny Salazar was activated from the DL. Arias responded with six innings and nine strikeouts. The only Harrisburg run came in the second inning on back-to-back singles and a double-steal by Jason Martinson and Caleb Ramsey, and a RBI grounder by Quincy Latimore.

Akron came back to tie the game, 1-1, in the third on singles by Justin Toole and Tyler Naquin and a sacrifice fly by Francisco Lindor. It was Lindor’s 41st RBI, which ties him for the team lead with Joe Wendle.

The Senators (28-43) lost for the fifth-straight game and went 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position. They left seven on base, all at either second or third base.

The four Akron pitchers—Arias, Louis Head, Price and Tejeda—combined to strike out 13 Senators. The RubberDucks have won seven of ten games against Harrisburg in the season series.

The RubberDucks and Senators will continue the series at Metro Bank Park on Saturday night at 6:00. RHP Cody Anderson (2-5, 4.92) will oppose Harrisburg’s RHP Paolo Espino (2-3, 5.18). The game will be broadcast on WARF 1350 AM and www.AkronRubberDucks.com.

The Akron RubberDucks are the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. The 2014 season is the 18th since moving to Canal Park and the first as the RubberDucks.
