The World Baseball Classic released the provisional rosters for all 16 teams in the tournament that will be played this March. Six Indians have been named to the rosters:
SS Mike Aviles (Puerto Rico)
SS Asdrubal Cabrera (Venezuela)
RHP Chris Perez (United States)
RHP Vinnie Pestano (United States)
CA Carlos Santana (Dominican Republic)
LHP Giovanni Soto (Puerto Rico)
One notable player not listed is catcher Yan Gomes who was expected to be on the Team Brazil roster, even as of this past week. Perhaps in the end he felt it more important to be in spring training and concentrate on winning a spot on the 25-man roster.
It should be noted that these are provisional rosters and that players can still be added or removed. It is possible that one of the Indians listed above may end up not playing and they other Indians could still end up on a roster. Teams with less than 28 players on their provisional rosters may fill the remaining spots prior to the Wednesday, February 20 deadline. Each Federation must submit its final 28-man roster, including a minimum of 13 pitchers and two catchers, by February 20.
