Site News: Big preseason update
March 7, 2012
With my spring training trip to Arizona coming up next Tuesday, I felt this would be a good time to provide a host of random updates on a lot of different things with the site, subscriptions, books, radio shows, and other things.
Subscriptions: Right now only the Top 50 Prospect countdown has required a subscription, but as previously noted a few weeks back, once I get to spring training next week my daily notebooks will require a subscription as will my weekly regular season column Minor Happenings which will now post twice a week. I have provided a detailed listing of what exactly subscribers get on the new subscription page: http://www.indiansprospectinsider.com/subscriptions
Photos: As noted in the subscription writeup, subscribers can feel free to contact me at any time to acquire professional quality photos at no charge. I know a lot of people like to print photos for autographs, or even families like to have them. If you are a subscriber and would like some photos, by all means, please contact me and let me know what you need. Aside from a few rare cases, I always have photos of every player in the system on hand.
What’s new: With the new season drawing nearer, there will be tons of articles and features on the IPI this year. Two new features will be The Radar Report and IPI on Site. The Radar Report is pretty much self-explanatory as I will be providing a weekly report of radar gun readings for Indians’ pitchers (and maybe some opponents) that I saw that week. The report will include average and high fastball velocity as well as average and high for secondary pitches as well. IPI on Site is a new video show where I will be interviewing a player on camera each week and posting it on the site. There are more new things coming, and if you have any suggestions or ideas on some things you would like to see added to the site, please contact me.
Smoke Signals: I am sorry to say that Paul Cousineau is no longer able to keep doing Smoke Signals; however, even with his departure I plan to keep the show running. The show should return at the end of this month and will air on Tuesday night at a yet to be determined time with site assistant editor Jim Pete stepping in as co-host of the show. I am still working on some details and will try to get it back to a normal one hour show. I will have more details on what time the show will air and when the first airing of the 2012 season will be once I get back from Arizona.
2012 Prospect book: I am no longer accepting direct orders for the 2012 Cleveland Indians Prospect Insider book, but it is still very available on-line at my site store (https://www.createspace.com/3774950) and can also be purchased on-line at Amazon.com. The book is also available at the team shops at Progressive Field, Single-A Lake County, and Double-A Akron. It should be available at Goodyear Ballpark anyway and will soon be available at Single-A Carolina as well, and later this summer when their season starts it will be available at Single-A Mahoning Valley.
PDF copies: I am researching and toying with the idea of making the 2012 book available to those that want a PDF version. I know a lot of people like to create binders or have the book on their computer or reader, so by popular request this is something I am looking into to see where I may be able to host it for little cost and allow people to download it for a fee.
Prior books: While I am not accepting direct orders for the 2012 book, I am accepting orders for prior books from 2008-2011. I have copies of all four previous books that I am selling at a very discounted rate in order to decrease some on-hand inventory. If you are interested in previous editions of the IPI Prospect book, each book can be purchased for the following prices ONLY from me: 2008 book ($4), 2009 book ($5), 2010 book ($6), and the 2011 book ($8). Shipping and handling is extra, but would be no more than $3-5 depending on the shipping method you choose. If interested in purchasing some of these previous editions from me, please contact me.
Internships: Right now I am in the process of contacting and working out the details with local colleges and universities to offer internships to be a beat reporter for one of the Indians’ affiliates for the Indians Prospect Insider. Schools contacted already are Ohio State University, North Carolina State University, Arizona State University, Kent State University, Cleveland State University, Youngstown State University, Akron University, and Lake Erie College. If you are a communications major at one of these schools and are interested in an internship to write for the IPI this summer, please contact me. This also applies to students from other schools not listed as I can work out the details to offer an internship at your school; however, you need to be able located close enough to the affiliate in order to easily attend games on a very regular basis.
Help wanted: You do not need to be a college student seeking an internship to write for the IPI. If you are looking for an opportunity to publish your material with one of the most popular baseball sites in all of Ohio, feel free to contact me. I’m always looking for new talented writers that have a passion for baseball.
Thanks again for reading and for the continued support. The 2012 season is almost officially here, and it is shaping up to be one of the most fun to follow yet.
