WILLIAMSPORT, PA - Baseball is a funny game where everything can change in a matters of seconds. It was never more apparent then on Saturday night in Williamsport. The Mahoning Valley Scrappers went 9 innings without a hit. Then in the top of the 10th inning the exploded for 4 runs on 5 hits to beat the Williamsport Crosscutters 5-1.

The Scrappers were able to get the first run of the game on the board in the 4th inning without a hit. With 1 out, Steven Patterson was hit by a pitch. Bradley Zimmer followed with a walk. A wild pitch would allow both runners to advance a base. Francisco Mejia would then lift a sacrifice fly to rightfield to score Patterson for the 1-0 lead.

Williamsport answered back in the bottom half of the inning. Aaron Brown started the inning with a single. After a strike out, Brown would advance to second on a ground out. Then with 2 outs, Cord Sandberg would single to score Brown to tie the game at 1.

From there the pitching staffs would take over for both teams. The Crosscutters would not allow a hit through 9 innings. The Scrappers would use three pitchers to 5 runners over the next 6 innings to send the game to extra innings.

In the top of the 10th inning, the Scrappers found their offense. Mejia started the inning with a single before being moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Leo CastilloTaylor Murphy followed with a single to rightfield to score Mejia for a 2-1 lead. Josh McAdams followed with a single of his own to put runners at first and second. An error would allow both Murphy and McAdams to score to push the Scrappers lead out to 4-1. Steven Patterson followed with a single to score Mendoza for the Scrappers final run and a 5-1 lead.

JP Feyereisen then worked a scoreless 10th inning, striking out Aaron Brown with a runner at first to end the game.
