WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The Mahoning Valley Scrappers went into their game on Friday night in Williamsport having stranded 9 runners on base in a 5-1 loss the night before. The offense made sure there was no repeat performance. The Scrappers pounded out 11 hits on their way to a 7-0 win over the Williamsport Crosscutters.

The Scrappers once again jumped out to a first inning lead. Greg Allen walked to start the game. Then with 1 out, Bradley Zimmer singled. Leo Castillo would follow with a single as well. Castillo’s single scored Allen for the 1-0 Scrappers lead.

The Scrappers would hold a 1-0 lead for the next 5 innings. Starter Kieran Lovegrove made sure that the early offense was enough until the bats were able to wake up again in the 7th. Lovegrove works 3.1 scoreless innings, three times stranding the tying run on base.

Mahoning Valley would pull away in the top of the 7th. With 1 out, Allen would reach base on a fielding error. The error on the Crosscutters would open the flood gates as 6 of the next 7 batters would reach base for Mahoning Valley. The big hits coming from Austin Fisher, Zimmer, Castillo and Josh McAdams. Fisher and Zimmer would follow each other with RBI doubles. Fisher’s double, his first of the season, would score Allen. Zimmer then followed to score Fisher. Castillo picked up his 2nd RBI on a single to score Zimmer. With 2 outs, McAdams would single to score Castillo. Another Williamsport error would allow 2 more runs score to put the Scrappers up by the eventual final of 7-0

Lovegrove ended up going 3.1 innings. He allowed just 1 hit and no runs. He walked 4 and struck out 2. Jordan Carter (1-1), came on and worked 3.2 scoreless innings of relief to pick up his first professional win. Carter allowed 1 hit and did not walk a batter while striking out 1. Jose Zapata pitched a perfect 2 innings of relief to finish off the game. Zapata struck out 3.

The win is the Scrappers first of the season against Williamsport and snaps a shot 2 game losing streak for the Scrappers. The Scrappers can win their 4th series out of their last 5 with a win on Saturday night.

The Scrappers and Crosscutters will finish their series on Saturday night with a 7:05 start. If you can’t be at Eastwood Field or on the road, catch all the Scrappers games this season with Tim Pozsgai on Sports Radio 1240 AM.
