NILES OH - A hard loss for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers as they played the Brooklyn Cyclones. The Scrappers battled it out but came up short; the fans though, were treated to a Bon Jovi themed fireworks display after the game.

Coming up short the Scrappers took a defeat to the Cyclones 4-2. 

At the start of the game Leo Castillo fielded a ground ball hit to him and threw to second to get the Cyclones runner on first. With a runner on second the Cyclones batter hit out to center field and brought in a run. To get the last out, right fielder D'Vone McClure caught a fly ball hit out to him. Getting a double for the Scrappers was Steven Patterson with a fly ball hit between center and left field.

Third baseman Yonathan Mendoza fumbled with a ground ball hit to him but he quickly recovered and got the first out for the Scrappers at the top of the second.

Yonathan Mendoza at the bottom of the third had a double with the ball hit out to left field who overthrew to second. With runners on first and second, Leo Castillo hit a ball past short stop and brought in one run, then Greg Allen who was on first slid to third and an overthrow by the center fielder gave Allen the opportunity to go home. The Scrappers took the lead 2-1. 

Second baseman Steven Patterson fielded a ball and threw to first, it was a close call but he got the out at the top of the fourth. With runners on first and second for the Cyclones the bater hit a ground ball right down the third base line bringing in two runs. Austin fisher had a single at the bottom of the fourth that also advanced his teammate to second.

At the top of the sixth Jose Zapata stepped on the mound to relieve Sean Brady as pitcher. The runner on first for the Cyclones came off first a little too far for Francsico Mejias liking. He used his rocket arm and threw to first baseman Leo Castillo and got the out. Center fielder Greg Allen had a great catch with a fly ball hit out to him getting the last out. D'Vone McClure had a single at the bottom of the sixth with a ball hit out between center and right field.

Manager Greg Hibbard had nothing but praise for starting pitcher Sean Brady saying "I thought he competed well. Every time he goes out there he competes. As the game progressed I thought his command got better. Overall, I thought he did a good job".

At the top of the seventh, in the attempt to pick to the runner off at first, pitcher Jose Zapata overthrew and the runner on third for the Cyclones ran home making the score 4-2.

At the top of the eighth Steven Patterson fielded a ground ball hit to him cleanly giving the Scrappers their first out of the inning. The next out was by Austin Fisher who had a ground ball hit to him. Austin Fisher, again, had a great play with the ball hit short to him; he scooped it up and threw to first. Cutting it close but he got the last out of the inning. D'Vone McClure at the bottom of the eighth hit a ball out to left field and got a double for the Scrappers. Shane Rowland hit to first base advancing his teammate but got out.

At the top of the ninth Luke Eubank stepped in to relieve Jose Zapata on the mound. The Scrappers could not get the bats going and lost 4-2.

The Scrappers are set to play August 9 at the Eastwood field in Niles Ohio.
