BROOKLYN, NY- After Nellie Rodriguez' career night resulted in a 7-5 loss on Wednesday night, the rest of the Scrappers lineup showed up on Thursday, backing up Rodriguez and beating the Brooklyn Cyclones 6-2.

The Scrappers didn't commit an error on the evening, smacked 13 hits, and allowed only two runs on a sticky and humid night in Brooklyn, finally giving them the consummate effort they've been searching for on the young season.

Kenny Matthews took the hill for the Scrappers and was brilliant in his fourth appearance of the season, allowing only a single hit while striking out three in his three innings of work.

He was replaced by Alexis Paredes in the fourth, who was not as dominant but efficient nonetheless. In his three innings, Paredes allowed four hits, one run, and no walks, while striking out two. Unfortunately for Matthews, it was Paredes who recorded his first win of the season, as both the Scrappers and Cyclones scored a run during Paredes' time on the hill.

Offensively, a three-run sixth inning propelled the Scrappers to a 5-1 lead.

Nellie Rodriguez continued his publicized tear, going 2-for-5 on the evening, but it was James Roberts who carried the load for Mahoning Valley.

Roberts finished 3-for-4 on the night, with two singles and a double, and scored two runs. On the year, Roberts has the second best batting average on the Scrappers, behind Mr. Rodriguez, at a .321 clip.

For the first time in a very long while, the Scrappers will have a chance to clinch a series; which just happens to be during an awe-inspiring trip to the Big Apple.

The Scrappers are set to start their ace, Luis Lugo (1-3, 2.08 ERA), against a starter for the Cyclones who is yet to be determined.

First pitch from Brooklyn is set for 7:05 p.m.
