Scrappers, Jammers halted by rain

The Scrappers traveled to Jamestown seeking to make the most of their short two game road trip.  They got off to a good start Thursday night, jumping out to a 6-3 lead early on against the Jammers.  The weather failed to cooperate, however, as heavy rain forced the game to be suspended after just three innings of play.

Both teams exchanged runs in the first inning.  The Scrappers’ run came when Evan Frazar walked with the bases full to force home a run. Jamestown got their first run off of starter Geoffrey Davenport whenwith runners on first and second, Robel Garcia’s attempt at turning a double play went errant and allowed the run from second to advance home.

The Jammers got another pair in the second off of Davenport.  After a leadoff double, Jammer Juancito Martinez singled to drive in the first run.  Then, after a throwing error allowed Juancito to move into scoring position, a single from Cameron Flynn scored the run, giving the Jammers a 2-1 lead after two.

The Scrappers responded with a huge five run inning, spearheaded by an Evan Frazar grand slam.  It came after Tyler Naquin singled to lead off the inning, followed by a Joey Wendle double, and one-out Richard Stock hit-by-pitch.  The homerun was Frazar’s second of the year.  They added one more after two wild pitches allowed Erik Gonzalez to reach third following a one-out single.  An RBI groundout from new Scrapper Andrew Campbell gave them a five run inning, and a 6-3 lead.

Davenport pitched a clean third inning before the rains moved in and forced the game into a rain delay that eventually ended the night early. The Scrappers and Jammers will resume the game tomorrow at 5 before following with an abbreviated seven inning affair at 7.
