Santana placed on 7-day concussion DL

Today the Indians announced that catcher Carlos Santana has been placed on Major League Baseball’s new 7-day disabled list for concussion. They purchases the contract of Triple-A Columbus catcher Luke Carlin and added him to the roster. To make room on the 40-man roster for Carlin, left-handed pitcher Rafael Perez has been transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day Disabled List.
Santana, 26, exited last night’s game in the 8th inning after taking a foul ball off his face mask. The Indians switch-hitting backstop is batting .245 (38-155) with 7 doubles, 5 home runs and 24 RBI through 43 games this season. He ranks among American League leaders in walks (4th, 30), pitches-per-plate appearance (5th, 4.31) and on-base pct. (21st, .360).
Santana is the first Indians player ever placed on the new 7-day DL for concussions, which was established in partnership with the MLBPA prior to the 2011 season to prevent players from returning prematurely, while still giving clubs a full complement of players on the 25-man roster.
Carlin, 31, began the season on the Clippers’ Opening Day roster and is batting .227 (15-66) with one double, one home run and 10 RBI in 20 games. He has drawn 12 walks against just 6 strikeouts, while carrying a .346 on-base percentage.
Perez, 30, was placed on the 15-day disabled on April 27 with a strained left latissimus, retroactive to April 26. The left-hander has gone 1-0 with a 3.52 ERA (3 ER/7.2) in 8 relief appearances for Cleveland this season, while holding opponents to a .185 (5-27) average. Perez will be eligible to come off the DL on June 25.
In addition to the Santana injury last night, shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera also left the game with tightness in his hamstring and is day to day. He is not expected to play the rest of the series with the White Sox this weekend.

No, it probably won't continue much longer, but with your two, top pitchers pitching poorly, another starter in exile, and a 4th injured, and a lineup all lefty, and injuries to your three power threats other than Kipnis, this is a surprise.
Indians need some luck some day with promising young players.
Of course, today's loss ended up being about some really poor pitching, but not fielding a competitive lineup might also start making their pitchers press and try to be too perfect. Ubaldo better pitch a good one tomorrow ... sigh.
I had to turn off today's game in the first inning.
We in the span of two days we lost our 3, 4, and 5 hitters. Oh, and Raffie is now on the 60 day DL.
We'll be in second place by next Sunday.
Reminds me of last year when we had a great 45 games until the injuries started to hit.
