Salem, VA – The Carolina Mudcats clubbed four doubles, and used three of them to plate runs in a 3-2 thriller over the Salem Red Sox on Thursday night at LewisGaleField. The win earns the Mudcats (24-22, 56-60) a win of the three-game series. J.D Reichenbach (4-5) dealt two scoreless innings for the win.
Andrew Jones (4-3) took the loss for the Red Sox (18-28, 59-56) after giving up a go-ahead run in the ninth inning. With a man at first and two out, Dwight Childs hit a fly ball off the wall in right to score Ronny Rodriguez for what proved to be the game winner.
Tony Wolters cracked the first two-bagger of the night to score Delvi Cid in the third inning. In the process, Wolters extended his hitting streak to seven games. Cid, who finished with three hits on the evening, doubled home Tyler Cannon in the fifth inning for a 2-0 score.
Two runs in the sixth inning thanks to back-to-back triples by Heiker Meneses and Adalberto Ibarra and a single from Michael Almanzar kept Mudcats’ hurler Will Roberts from a winning decision. The right-hander had one of his best starts of the year, pitching seven innings. He allowed the two runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out six.
The Carolina Mudcats open a three-game series at Lynchburg on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. The Mudcats return home to host the Frederick Keys for three games beginning August 13. Tickets are available by calling (919) 269-2287 or visiting carolinamudcats.com.
