Sailing with the Clippers: 4/8/14 - 4/14/14
The Clippers are 3-7 to start the season and although it's early are tied for last in the International League West standings with the Toledo Mudhens. Columbus' problems have been inconsistent with the losses coming between one and eight runs. Another week has passed in the season and there is still no one place to blame for the struggling Clippers.
Jesus Aguilar INF
10 G, .417 BA (15-for-36), .488 OBP, 8 R, 4 2B, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 9 K, 5 BB, 0 SB
Jesus Aguilar continues to be the most consistently player the Clippers have this season, leading Columbus in almost every offensive category. Aguilar is a power-hitter that has taken the transition to Triple-A in stride this year, showing little growing pains in his first ten games.
Tyler Cloyd, RHP
2 G, 1-1, 11.2 IP, 4.63 ERA, 15 H, 8 R, 6 ER, 10 K, 1 BB
Tyler Cloyd did a 180 in his second start for the Clippers against Louisville. After pitching 3.1 innings with six earned runs his first start, Cloyd went eight innings with four hits and one run off of an error in start number two. Cloyd struck out seven batters, with no walks at the end of the night and earned himself the win. Hopefully this is the Cloyd Columbus sees this season.
Stranded at Sea:
Mark Lowe, RHP
4 G, 0-0, 5 IP, 9.00 ERA, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 6 K, 3 BB
Mark Lowe has been steadily declining during his stints on the mound. In his past two appearances Lowe has put the fans on the edge of their seat, loading the bases in tight games. Most recently Lowe went .2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB before being pulled from the game.
Brett Brach, RHP
2 G, 0-2, 4.2 IP, 11.57 ERA, 9 H, 8 R, 6 ER, 6 K, 2 BB
Brett Brach made his second start of the season this week and was unable to make it out of the first inning. With his second loss of the season Brach was fooling no one giving up five hits and six runs in .2 innings of work.
3: Shortstop Justin Sellers has committed three errors in the six games he has played for Columbus.
2: Nick Hagadone and Brett Brach both have two losses to begin the season.
