Sailing with the Clippers: 4/3/2014 - 4/7/2014
Unfortunately for the Clippers their season hasn't exactly started off with a bang. After two rainouts Columbus is 0-4 going into their second series of the season.
The Clippers were swept by their first opponent the Indianapolis Indians and there is no single reason. With two losses coming within one run of Indianapolis and the Indians taking the other two by four runs, there has not been a single area of the team responsible for the losing streak.
Lucky for the Clippers, baseball season is a marathon and not a sprint. There is still hope for the 130+ games left.
Jesus Aguilar, INF
4 G, .583 BA (7-for-12), .667 OBP, 2 R, 2 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 K, 3 BB, 0 SB
Making his Triple-A debut Aguilar has not disappointed. The power hitter may be the only Clipper hitting consistently and has played a part in four of Columbus' eight runs this season. The season is just kicking off, but this first baseman has been making waves.
Trevor Bauer, RHP
1 G, 0-0, 6 IP, 1.50 ERA, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 9 K, 2 BB
Bauer started on the mound opening day for Columbus last Friday. The righty was in contention early in spring training to make the big league rotation, but ultimately started the season in Columbus. Bauer showed promise in his first start of the season fanning nine batters, four being the last batters he faced. A promising start to the season considering his struggles of 2013.
Stranded at Sea
Bryan LaHair, INF
4 G, .000 BA (0-for-11), .000 OBP, 0 R, 0 2B, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 4 K, 0 BB, 0 SB
LaHair is starting off slow this season, having yet to reach a base in the first series. It is probably premature to hit the panic button considering there is a lot of baseball to be played and he is still rounding into form after offseason wrist surgery.
Mike Zagurski, LHP
1 G, 0-0, 1.1 IP, 20.25 ERA, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 K, 5 BB
Zagurski's first showing with the Indians was underwhelming to say the least. The southpaw was unable to find the plate and lacked control on the mound walking five. Manager Chris Tremie wasn't concerned with the inconsistency saying, "I'm sure he'll be better the next time out , that's all part of it."
0: Bryan LaHair and Audy Ciriaco have recorded 0 hits this season.
2: Shortstop Justin Sellers has been saddled with two errors in four games.
