AKRON, OH – The Altoona Curve took an early lead over the Akron RubberDucks Sunday afternoon, pulling out a 7-4 victory over the Akron RubberDucks at Canal Park in the final game of the four-game series.

The Curve took a strong 2-0 lead in the top of the first, with second and third-hole hitters Alen Hanson and Mel Rojas Jr. shooting back-to-back home runs off of RubberDucks starting pitcher Will Roberts.

Altoona put another mark on the board, with Stetson Allie hitting Mel Rojas home. Their momentum continued into the fourth, with three runners crossing home, pulling their lead ahead to 6-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth.

Akron’s Joe Wendle responded, hitting a homer to right field in the bottom of the fourth. Wendle would come back to score the RubberDucks’ second run of the game in the bottom of the sixth on a throwing error by Altoona’s shortstop, Hanson.

Jordan Smith joined Wendle in runs for Akron, crossing home on a RBI double to center by Ronny Rodriguez. Bryan LaHair chalked up a RBI, sending Tyler Naquin across the plate in the seventh, tightening the Altoona lead to 7-4.

Roberts was charged with the loss after throwing five innings for the RubberDucks, allowing six runs, 10 hits and striking out four batters. The RubberDucks were unable to retire three-straight Altoona batters during Roberts’ time on the mound.

Altoona starting pitcher A.J. Morris recorded the win. The right-hander pitched 5.2 innings, allowing five hits, three runs and four walks. Quinton Miller earned the save for the Curve, retiring the RubberDucks in order to solidify the Altoona win.

The Akron RubberDucks (23-13) return to Canal Park tomorrow to begin a three-game series against the Harrisburg Senators (11-23) at 6:35 PM, with RHP Cody Anderson (2-3, 5.50) starting on the mound for the RubberDucks and LHP Matt Purke (1-5, 7.18) getting the call for the Senators.

The Akron RubberDucks are the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. The 2014 season is its 18th since moving to Canal Park and its first since becoming the RubberDucks.
