News on Offense:
First round pick Francisco Lindor had a stolen base in each of the first three games of the season (all versus Fort Wayne). Overall, the Captains had a stolen base in their first four games this season. Lindor leads the team with three; followed by Todd Hankins (2) and Bryson Myles, Jordan Smith and Luigi Rodriguez all have one.
Alex Monsalve hit the first home run of the season for the Captains on Monday evening versus Great Lakes. Monsalve is off to a slow start to begin the season, batting only .222 (4/18) with two RBI. The season is still young, and I anticipate Monsalve to turn things around.
First baseman Jerrud Sabourin had a good first week of the season. Currently, he is batting .316 (6/19) with two runs scored and two RBI. Sabourin had a rough go-round with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers last season. Maybe he will be this season’s Anthony Gallas?

Hitter of the Week: LeVon Washington
L-Wash had an amazing week in the box and on the base paths. He hit .400 (6/15) with five runs scored with an RBI and five walks versus four strikeouts. It appears that LeVon is primed for a breakout season.
News on Pitching:
The pitching staff was lights out in their first week of action. As a whole, the staff has a 2.40 ERA and has only surrendered 15 earned runs (23 runs total in 56 1/3 innings pitched). Starting the season of like this should be used as a stepping stone for the rotation and the bullpen for the rest of the season.
The Captains shut out the Great Lakes Loons on Monday night for their first shut out of the season. It was a team effort with Joseph Colon leading the way with six innings and only allowing three hits. Francisco Valeria and Shawn Armstrong came out of the bullpen and followed Colon’s lead and threw three more innings of shutout ball. On the night, the three combined for eight strikeouts and only two walks.
Kyle Blair and Cody Anderson will be piggy-back starters this season (at least early on). Blair was a fourth round pick in the 2010 draft and Anderson was a 14th round pick last season. Each went four innings in a loss on Tuesday night. Blair gave up four earned runs and Anderson just one. Both totaled twelve strikeouts (five by Blair, seven by Anderson) and walked only three.

Pitcher of the Week: Kyle Petter
Petter began this season like he left off last season; striking everyone out. This week the lefty reliever posted nine strikeouts in just five innings of work (roughly two strikeouts per inning). He has only allowed two hits and hit two batters (both batters were in his first outing). He should be on the move to High-A Carolina soon.
Facts Ahoy:
This is a new part to the Captains weekly review. I will be giving fun facts about the Captains organization, its players and coaching staff throughout the season. Enjoy!
- Manager David Wallace was an original member of the Lake County Captains back in 2003. The roster included the likes of Ben Francisco, Michael Aubrey, and Roberto Hernandez (i.e. Fausto Carmona).
- Many players on the Captains roster are Twitter aficionados. These players include:
- Nick Bartolone (@NickBartolone)
- Jordan Cooper (@J_K_COOPER)
- Jordan Smith (@Jordan39Smith)
- Will Roberts (@WRoberts25)
- Jerrud Sabourin (@J_Sabo)
- LeVon Washington (@L_Wash)
- Cole Cook (@C_M_Cook)
- Shawn Armstrong (@SArmstrong90)
- Todd Hankins (@todd_hankins)
- Bryson Myles (@b_myles23)
- At 18 years old Francisco Lindor is the youngest player on the Captains. Lindor will turn 19 years old on November 14th of this year. On the flipside, the 23 year old Kyle Blair is the oldest player on the team. He will turn 24 years old on September 27th.
