News on Offense:

Outfielder Luigi Rodriguez was named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week. This is a weekly award by the Indians that recognizes the individual performance by a player in the Indians' system. For the week ending on Monday (award announced on Tuesday), Luigi batted .556 in four games with two home runs, a triple, and five RBI. He recorded three three-hit games and was on-base at least twice in all four games. Congratulations Luigi!

Infielder Leonardo Castillo continues to struggle. This week he batted a meager .167 (3 for 18) with a double, home run and four RBI. Castillo is currently batting .163 on the season with 11 RBI. If he continues to struggle, I speculate he could be sent down to Mahoning Valley once the short season starts up in the middle of June.

After tearing the league up a few weeks ago, catcher Alex Lavisky has cooled down considerably. Lavisky is currently batting .229 after an abysmal week at the plate (.071 AVG). He has one homerun and 13 RBI on the season.

Hitter of the Week: Francisco Lindor

Lindor led the team in hitting this week with a .522 average (12 for 23). That is a pretty good week for anyone. He scored four times, hit a homerun, drove in two and stole three bases. It appears that Lindor is ahead of the learning curve in regards for teens in their first season of professional baseball.

News on Pitching:

It was not a bad week at all for the pitching staff. With a scheduled off-day on Tuesday and the rainout on Monday evening, there were a total of five games on the schedule. The staff posted an impressive 2.68 ERA in 47 innings of work. They also managed 45 strikeouts to 17 walks.

Righty Will Roberts got the call-up to Carolina this past Monday. It is a well deserved promotion after he went 2-1 with a 2.90 ERA. Roberts struck out 13 and walked eight. Opponents were batting .220 against him. This week Roberts was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in seven innings pitched. He struck out three and only allowed four hits.

Pitcher of the Week: Jeff Johnson

Johnson went 1-0 this week with a save (his second of the season). He owns both of the Captains’ saves on the season.
