WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem Dash blanked the Carolina Mudcats 3-0 behind a great start from Jake Petricka on Saturday night at BB&T Ballpark.
A partisan crowd of 6,963 watched Petricka (4-4) deal seven scoreless for the Dash (33-21). He scattered three hits with six strikeouts.
Michael Goodnight (1-6) dropped his sixth straight decision in 11 outings for the Mudcats (25-29). Goodnight tossed six innings, but a three-run third would prove his downfall.
Carlos Sanchez extended his hitting streak to 11 games when he singled to start the pivotal frame. Brady Shoemaker immediately followed with his 10th home run of the year, a two-run laser shot to right field, for a 2-0 lead.
Dan Black continued the surge with a double to left-center. He later scored on a sacrifice fly by Michael Earley to finish the scoring.
Pitching ruled the remainder of the game as neither team scored, and none of the eight base runners made it past second base.
The Mudcats have lost six straight to Winston-Salem. The team will attempt to snap the losing skid on Sunday at 2 p.m.
